Fine. But I hope you never once bitched about Dusty's usage of our starters in 03.

I was 16 and the pitcher abuse thing wasn't as prevalent as it was now (and I wasn't on any message boards like this one), so I didn't notice until Prior and Wood started getting hurt all the time and people started bringing it up retroactively as the reason.

Retroactively my ass.

I remember at the time seeing our guys being like 3 out of the top 5 or something (maybe that's exaggerated, but i'm not sure itis) in pitcher abuse points.

I'm speaking only from my own POV, and like I said, I wasn't as into baseball, nor did I have a message board to educate me, at the time. I never heard about pitcher abuse until after our guys started getting hurt.

I remember that Wood and Prior were 1/2 in pitches/start by fairly wide margin.

Grantland does a nice writeup of the game tonight. I knew the Royals offense was bad but wow:

-First playoff team ever to finish last in both baseball in walks and home runs

-94 wRC+ is 9th worse in baseball this year and worst among playoff teams since the 2007 Diamondbacks (ugh)

-They are tied for the 2nd worst walk rate of ANY team in the Wild Card era (1994)

This year, there were 36 starts by Major League pitchers of 122 or more pitches, out of 4860 total starts. (That 122 number is arbitrary in the sense that I'm not going to do all the math myself)

In 2003, Wood and Prior had 20 starts of 122 or more pitches(10 each), out of 69 total starts.

I can't believe Sam Fuld turned into a player good enough to start a playoff game.

So many guys like that, the game sort of fell back to their level in the post PED era.

Good point. It kind of feels like I'm watching an HD game from the 80s right now given the teams and their respective lineups. Almost expecting Bob Welch to take the mound for Oakland.

i'm using mlb.tv to watch the game and i've just noticed the 9 different camera angles you can choose. has this always been a part of mlb.tv or just for the playoffs? either way, it's wild!

This game has been going on for 45 minutes and we're headed to the bottom of the 2nd.

In 4 innings, the Royals already have more postseason memories than the Cubs do since 2003. Unless you count Geo or DeRosa's homers

next year when the 90-win cubs lose the wild card game to the 80-win cardinals,* i am for real going to commit self-harm

i have lots of postseason memories from 07-08. lilly's glove slam, dempster giving up a grand slam, me throwing up in a public restroom after the dodgers completed the sweep.
