I don't get it? The penalties didn't work so we should just remove them 2 years early?

You guys do realize the NCAA released their proper protocol for handling sexual assault accusations in athletic departments and Joe Paterno basically did exactly what they wanted him to do, right? So after that was released, this really shouldn't be a big surprise. Don't be shocked when they award the wins back to PSU, too.

You can be irate at the University admins ultimately responsible who face their day at trial and still realize that punishing college students, alumni and fans for a legal issue is completely moronic at the same time, believe me. But please, feel free to continue making/laughing at child molestation jokes, thats definitely not a weird thing to do.

Damn. You were so promising.

Sorry guys, I'm just a realist. I don't want the NCAA meddling in legal matters, because they kinda [expletive] everything up. And like I said, not surprised by anything they do at this point.

you don't want the NCAA involved in punishing member organizations that systematically enable sexual abuse?

The NCAA punishing the school for basically allowing Sandusky to use it as his personal evil sex trap isn't "meddling in legal matters;" the criminal investigation and prosecution has nothing to do with that.

Though I'll agree with you saying that you think Paterno did what the NCAA wanted him to do if what they wanted him to do was ignore what was going on and hope nobody talks or finds out.

Not until due process has ran its course, no.

I'm not going to argue with you guys, but I do know some facts. It's on record that Paterno made a report to his superior and the school VP and backed out of the process. That's what the NCAA just released a few weeks ago as the proper course of action. I am not defending Joe Paterno here as much as I am saying I just refuse to be surprised when they give him his wins back, because the NCAA is run by clowns.

Because I'm not convinced the football program had anything to do with it, really. I'd like to hear the admins defense, make my judgements after that. Basically, I just think everyone deserves their day in court before we go around tar and feathering an entire university.

These "facts" are from a huge grey area, especially when we're talking about Paterno having "superiors" at Penn State. It's subjective, but I find it laughable to think he couldn't have done basically anything he wanted. I think that report was an ass-covering ([expletive] anyone for thinking pun) gesture.

I agree, the NCAA is a corrupt, incompetent collection of babboons, but this is basically excusing everyone involved like Paterno was actually beholden to anyone at Penn State and like Penn State was only beholden to the NCAA with this issue.

Unless this is looked at as a prolonged cover up/ignoring of the issue specifically done to protect the football program and the school and as such the school should be punished from benefiting from that program as much as they've come to expect. There's WAY too much smoke with this going back to Sandusky suddenly going from heir apparent to being on the outs in '99 after the initial investigation, yet him retaining all kinds of special privileges from the school and on campus. This wasn't a surprise when it finally blew up.

There are a lot of indefensibly stupid things that happen in the NCAA, but wtf are they thinking here. I really don't get it. What does a program have to do to receive an actual punishment?

Have we come to the point where recruiting violations are worse than systematic child rape?

Who needs the justice system when we have a message board full of pre-cogs, right here?

I really feel the need to say again I'm just defending due process here, not Penn State or Joe Paterno. The trials could uncover even worse atrocities, ones where perhaps the entire athletic department should be disbanded as a result of it, but now that the NCAA handled this in the way they did, the appropriate punishment may never happen, mostly because the NCAA rushed to punish based on public pressure and not actual court findings.

This is absurd; there's zero reason for the NCAA to have waited when what was already known was beyond the pale in terms of how horrifying and indefensible it was. Due process was effectively a technicality by the time Sandusky went to trial, and the NCAA had scores of information, much of it provided by the authorities, to act.

JoPa had reports of what this guy was doing for many years and stuck his fingers in his ears and put his hands over his eyes and hummed.

Sandusky was all set to replace JoPa, then suddenly and unexpectedly announced his retirement IN 199FRIGGEN9 after the first allegations were made, that was two decades before the allegations came to light with more child rape. Everyone around that program at least suspected what was going on.

Penn State should never play another football game, ever.

If you are going to stick up for JoPa and Penn State, doing proud and loud, don't back off.

"Hey guys, it's 1999 I just won Assistant Coach of the Year again and I'm only 55 and super respected and beloved and expected to take over for Paterno but I'm totally gonna retire out of nowhere and it has absolutely nothing to do with the investigation of me and the sexual abuse of a child that just happened. That's cool, right?"

Yup, you're the man, feel free to hang around the program until I die, I'm not so sure people can really rape people, or maybe they can, but I think I'm a butterfly.

I'm dead now, so you are forgiven. WP JS. WP.

What the [expletive] does a court have to do with this? Penn State's membership in the NCAA comes with the understanding they will abide by the rules set forth in the membership. I don't have to break laws to have my gym membership suspended.

Anyone who lived in State College at the time (late 90's) who pretends that they didn't see this coming a few years ago is a terrible liar. My parents heard about the '99 allegations and were shocked that he was allowed to keep running The Second Mile. It's gross how many people I know who still stick up for Paterno and his staff over this issue.
