I fully expected this, though not until next season.

The NCAA puffed themselves up and tried to "take down" the Penn State program with "crushing" penalties, only to see Penn State go 17-9 since.

I'm not exactly sure what keeping the penalties another two years proves.

Listen, I'm not arguing against the school being punished. We've been over all that a million times. I'm just saying I'm not surprised that the NCAA is backing off now that a) the school has "behaved well" (whatever that means) and b) the penalties didn't have the effect they intended. The NCAA is so inconsistent that they can't even stick to one penalty

Looks like the Big Ten is still alive for a playoff spot!

Oh, and I'm looking forward to more of Derwood's contributions to this thread.

a couple of weeks ago Boers and Bernstein kind of gave their support for lifting the ban. It had something to do with discrediting the Pro-Joe crowd. They were about as anti-PSU as you could get.

Boers and Bernstein have a bizarre infatuation with the fans of joe paterno. That's really th stupidest basis to make PSU bowl eligible. What does "discredit pro joe crowd" even mean?

I have no idea what that means either.

If the NCAA wanted to open this entire can of worms and make everyone angry at Penn State again, mission accomplished, I guess. Otherwise, all they've done is look weak

Derwood please just stop talking ffs

Stop pretending I'm defending either Penn State or this decision. All I've said is that I'm no surprised that the NCAA reversed course, not because I think it's the right decision, but because the NCAA can literally do nothing right.

And because penn state keeps winning baby!

Again, you're putting words in my mouth. I only stated their record because the penalties didn't work. One could argue that means the penalty wasn't harsh enough.

You might want to stop and reflect on these two sentences for a bit.

What do you think the desired effect of the penalties was?

I don't get it? The penalties didn't work so we should just remove them 2 years early?

I didn't say it made sense. But nothing the NCAA does makes sense

June Jones resigned at SMU. I guess getting your asses kicked by UNT was the final straw. Especially with A&M next up after a bye week.

I'm really surprised he didn't work out there. He has the NFL pedigree (successful or not, he's still coached there), the recent high level success at Hawaii and a whole bunch of money with nice facilities at SMU. Really thought he'd make them a factor as a midmajor.
