posts like these mystify me

"i hate this guy, i won't specify why, so reward him with clicks!"

Sometimes venting is worth the additional 40 cents Clay Travis might make off a column.

The good news is most of us know Clay Travis is a jackass and therefore won't click on it anyway.

I'd still like a little detail on why the guy is "just the [expletive] worst." There are lots of jackasses writing articles out there.

The NFL would NEED to suspend him based on their "conduct policy", right?

it's his first offense, so he would get a 6 game suspension, not indefinite.

so Goodell couldn't even implement his own policy correctly (the first time he had to implement it)

Yeah. But I was replying to Ryne Ween's post that the NFL didn't really "need" to suspend him.

I like how they use the term domestic voilence as a nebulous euphemism for violence against women, when that's what they clearly mean and there is no harm in saying it either. Whats gonna happen when some Chicago Bear player beats the crap out of his brother. Like if Brian Urlacher beat up Casey Urlacher he would need to get 6 games the first time and a lifetime ban the second time. I am not sure but I was under the impression also that in most states domestic violence/assualt/battery only extends to a married spouse, fiancee, or partner that you live with. Im pretty sure as long as you maintain separate residences and arent married or engaged to your girlfriend you can beat her and not get six games because thats technically just aggravated battery.

One more thing, I think, and im not sure, that emotional abuse or physical threats count as domestic violence in Illinois.

In Indiana, "domestic battery" requires the parties to (1) be spouses, (2) be living as spouses (factors for this include duration of relationship, frequency of contact, financial interdependence, children together, maintenance of a common household, etc), or (3) have a child together. While not exactly uniform, I think is a relatively common definition throughout the states.

But also blood relatives. For example hope solo got arrested and charged with assault and domestic violence for beating up her nephew. This was either california or Washington state. Domestic violence is a very broad tent.

This is the problem with a businessman/pr monkey like goodell attempting to adjudicate all matters of morality and criminality with such an aire of righteousness. This is why when they agreed to the CBA and the players gave goodell sole authority to hand out conduct penalties as he saw fit, and people said "this is stupid" and they were right. Pure hubris on goodell and the Nfls part and not a ton of foresight.

Had they just agreed apon a third party to hand out the fines and penalties than they would have all been better off.

The 6 game thing was flexible based on circumstances. The "indefinite"-ness of it just means they're figuring out if they want to add any extra time. There's a lot of icky things about this whole situation, but that is really not one of them.

This is the give gift that keeps on giving.

ESPN OTL is reporting that they several reports from multiple sources that Rice did explain to Goodell that he struck her, although some reports say it was closed fist or open (maybe he tried Daniel Tosh's theory?). Regardless if that came out, I don't see where Rice was being sketchy or evasive as he even apologized for his actions.

I watched that live yesterday and it was weird.

I'm sure there was an advisor there who was not happy, he's still heavily involved with the League as he mentioned his close relationship with Goodell.

I definitely think they're covering it up by playing the dumb card.

Judging by the amount of time non-sports news outlets are dedicating to this thing, I'd say the dumb card isn't working.

And the obvious league tampering is really starting to anger the wrong people. The NFL better hope another bombing or other disaster occurs to take focus off this, if they want it to go away.
