I have less of an issue with Puig's "abrasive" behavior than I do with the fact that he's stupid. And I don't think it's "young and dumb" so much as stupid stupid. I don't think he's going to outgrow it. Be he's so talented it doesn't matter all that much.

he could be derrick rose and i'll take the 5 win 24 year old

For sure, but it'd be nice if he didn't do so many bone headed things on the field. And I wonder if him tailing off as the season goes on the past couple years is just a youth issue, or if it's going to be a thing for him.

Rizzo did a lot of boneheaded things this year too, should we trade him? He literally swung at balls that hit him

What are you on about?

I wasn't arguing against potentially acquiring him, and I don't understand why the Dodgers would trade him, either. But the stuff Puig does is far worse than what Rizzo has done. Some of it has been pretty amazing, actually. But again, his huge talent eclipses his gaffes.

If Puig is dealt to Chicago the centerpiece will be Castro and he will slide into Ramirez's spot at SS. Anything less than that will cause the dodgers fan base to riot. They are in win now mode and they are not going to want to wait on prospects to develop. They currently have good prospects that are blocked on the major league level.

If it's true that he is being shopped one has to wonder what kind of clubhouse cancer he is. Young and stupid I know but enough to run him out of town after 2 years?

Clashes with Mattingly + being benched for game 4 along with major maturity issues.... They have logjam in the outfield, need for a SS and in need of bullpen help. Puig will return more value than any other outfielder in their organization. This rumor might have traction.

Castro + Bullpen arms + ??? could maybe get this done.

They've got Corey Seager coming up at SS. Frankly, I'd think they'd be more in the market for a third baseman, but if they'd take Castro as the main piece, you have to do that. But I don't think they would.

There is a logjam in the OF, especially with Pederson in the picture, but there are a couple of better options to move. But then again, Colletti is a moron, so who knows.

I'll be floored if Seager sticks at SS in the bigs.

i'd trade castro for puig in a second and then i'd send alcantara back to 2B where his defense is amazing

So would I, but I'm incredulous that even that dipstick Colletti would make that trade.

yeah i doubt he would but i was just going off that discussion

i'd toss in some extras too as long as it wasn't any of the top flight guys (along with castro, that is)

OK ... I don't follow the bulls closely so what does derrick rose do that is stupid?

Nothing in particular, he just is really [expletive] stupid

That's a good trigger for this question, which applies not only to CarGo but a number of situations where an outfielder is added. What do you do if/when Bryant commits 30 errors at 3B next year? There's the chance that one of Bryant/Soler disappoints and the chance that Bryant sticks at 3B, but with a big commitment(both dollars and years) like CarGo you're staking a lot to those odds that are (hopefully) not all that high.

i would target him with the plan of installing him in CF

Could be worth it, but that's a huge gamble. Hasn't played there in 3 years(and only ~175 games career), and was below average his last couple seasons. Add in the injury issues and it seems like that's almost sure to cause problems, especially since neither Soler or Bryant are gazelles to help with range.

238 point career split in OPS. .988 at Coors and .750 away. It was even worse in his limited time this year. .945 OPS at Coors (32 games) vs. .544 OPS away (38 games). Considering he has issues staying on the field in the first place, I think if I'm trading Javy I'd rather use him for someone a little more reliable, both health and production wise.

Home/Road splits for Rockies players have very little predictive value. Not only do their road games skew to pitcher's parks(a third of their road games are at Dodger Stadium, Petco, & AT&T), but there's a documented effect that since pitches move less in Denver, players aren't able to adjust as well at other elevations. If you want a practical example, look at Matt Holliday's Coors splits and how he handled transitioning to the NL Central.

Fair enough, but I still don't trust him to stay healthy. A package with Baez as a centerpiece should be able to bring in a bigger fish than Gonzalez.

Pun intended.

What would it take to get Pollock and Montero from the D'backs?

Hard to see a reason for them to trade Pollock. It looks like the new FO there is going more the Kenny WIlliams approach than Jeff Luhnow, so while Montero *might* be a possibility because of his salary and Arizona's lack of resources, they almost certainly wouldn't trade Pollock.
