why is Baker a better receiver

We're really splitting hairs here - but I think he was just saying he'd like a veteran catcher to call the game instead of Castillo. I dunno. I doubt it matters that much, not like Wada is a rookie.

I still would have liked to have seen the better receiver in Baker behind the plate for Wada's first game. And for Hendricks, for that matter.

You know, I thought that for a split second myself earlier. I wonder how much it does matter.

A lot, IMHO. And especially in a case here when you know Baker's catching one game anyway, why not?

Reds announcers say all the Cubs' stud prospects are "in Single A, maybe just got promoted to Double A a few weeks ago".

Although they are smart enough to say they think the Cubs won't trade Castro since he's a good player, only 24 and under a really good contract.

I think it's pretty well accepted that Castillo is one of the worst catchers in baseball at framing pitches. And I know people rip on CERA, but I think it can be illustrative. This season Baker is almost a run-and-a-half lower, and Castillo has consistently trailed behind the overall team number in that statistic. At some point large discrepancies and consistent patterns suggest more than a coincidence.

They went match ups. Lefty started tonight so Castillo got the start with Baker going against the righty earlier.

whatever value there is in having a confident veteran catcher helping a rookie pitcher in his first mlb start, i have to think a lot of it has to come from being able to actually talk to one another on the field

Looks like no harm, no foul, but it's an interesting question/concept. To consider Wada a veteran or not, as others have stated above.

Oh, also, hello, please to meet you all, etc.

Wada started learning English in middle school and he's lived in the US for three years. You really think he couldn't understand if Baker was speaking to him?

Wow, didn't know that.

Compulsory in Japan - everyone does it.

Then why would his English have to be any better than Fuku's or Fujikawa's?

Please don't let them come back. Every time the Reds do something good their announcers act like they just personally accomplished something and it makes me want to cut myself.

I do enjoy Seinfeld, however, I may have missed the reference >_>.

Same in China - I was so concerned about being able to speak Mandarin before I went, then I learned everyone <30 speaks English in urban areas.
