I had completely given up on Castro last year. This is beautiful [expletive] to see from him and Rizzo.

The only RHP with shitty enough stuff that I can think of that Olt can hit is probably Vance Worley, and he goes tomorrow. Olt's looked so awful today, though, so he might not even get that chance.

We're once again the same number of games under .500 as the 2007 Cubs' low point.

The problem is that there is not much time left before the July sell off

Dare to say: I'm coming around on the 8-man pen.

With enough versatility out of the 12 position guys, I'm fine with it. IF, big IF, we have 8 guys that are truly solid. Honestly, there's no need for Villanueva.

But, I can see a future pen with Rondon, Strop, Ramirez, Grimm, Vizcaino, Rivero, Wright, and Rosscup being good enough that we don't need a bunch of 7 inning starts either. Limit the innings on the starters, get each of the pen arms plenty of work. May be unconventional, but if the pen is as solid as I can envision this one becoming, the rotation may not need to have anything other than homegrown types and short term FA.

Which is a totally different mindset than I've always had. But these bullpen arms are really making me think.

It's too bad we've given over 700 ABs to guys with sub .600 OPS. Everyone hates on Lake, and I'll be happy myself when we can replace him, but he has the 5th best wOBA on the team. Replacing Barney and Schierholtz with even slightly positive players would make such a difference.

Cubs are 18-13 since May 17, tops in the NL (KC and Oak are 19-12). Unfortunately, the 2nd, 3rd, 4th and 5th best records in the NL in that span are the Pirates, Cards, Reds and Brewers, as the entire NL Central has been over .500 the past month.
