Or, Rogers Hornsby followed by the dead Confederate soldier signifies an era that has passed, an era where whities were our national treasures. That soldier is dead, and that day is gone, defeated by a game starring lazy brown guys. Nailed it.

he was actually a dead Billy Yank if that makes a difference.

I have a legitimate question.

How important is the guy that hurt his hamstring?

The talking heads say he is our 2nd best scorer, fwiw.

TAKE THE GARBAGE TO ANOTHER THREAD. WORLD CUP GAM THREAD NEED NOT BE SOILED.

real question: i have watched the corner kick that won the game a million times now. the kick is low, hard, and gets to the big group of players (probably a word for this i don't know) before it gets to the goalkeeper. this seems like the best way to do this. certainly no guarantee of success, but it at least gives you a chance. most of the corners i have seen don't manage to do this, though (and this is notwithstanding stupid ghana's that went nowhere and everyone made fun of). is it just really hard to put the ball in that spot and people are missing? do defensive teams load up there to prevent this from working, so lots of teams kick elsewhere to try to counter? or is it something else?

It's really easy, but Ghana was drunk with power

Very important. His size and athleticism allowed him to be the target of long passes from the midfield. Without that, the other team can pressure the ball in the midfield with impunity because they aren't scared of getting beat with one quick ball over the top.

It's like if the only deep threat wide receiver got hurt and now the defense can bring a safety into the box and jam the receivers with no fear of getting beat.

I don't think it's easy. When you consider the fact that you can't just put it on a spot. You have to consider your trajectory. You don't want to give a defender an opportunity to easily strike the ball out of the goal box. You also can't just drop it in there or else the keeper will get to it first.

It's easy to pass or loft a ball to a spot on the ground. It's not so easy to put it to a spot in mid air and do it with a specific trajectory.

The best corners/set pieces are whipped in at a lower height, with pace. Too much arc, and the keeper gets it. Too low, and you never get it past the near post.

when brazil plays soccer, and one of the guys passes to another guy, the guy who gets the ball doesn't just let the ball bounce 10 feet away from him as soon as he touches it. america should try to learn how to do that by the next game.

I also posted a gif of Rogers Hornsby, a pic of an executed civil war soldier, and a random picture of Aramis Ramirez. Care to speculate what deep seeded point I was trying to make by posting those?

lol we can probably speculate i guess

If we were playing Family Feud and the category was "things that give OMC a boner" and "beautiful women" was already taken, "dead Union soliders" would have been my next guess.
