So what do we do with Olt after this season?

Keep him around as a power PH? Send him back to AAA? Ship him off for another change of scenery?

If Bryant ends up in the OF, he can platoon with Valbuena...but strict platoon, zero AB's against righties. He still has a .956 OPS against lefties.

He can be a placeholder for a few weeks at 3B(with Valbuena at 2B) until Bryant and/or Baez are ready, then he can be a backup corner IF/power RH PH. If he makes some strides in the next 4 months you can consider shipping him off, but odds are against that at the moment, and giving him much more curated playing time next year might help his trade value a bit for the following offseason.

Probably won't be hard to keep space open for an occasional power hitter who can theoretically start for a week or two.

@CarrieMuskat: #Cubs Castillo told that it looked like #Brewers knew what Samardzija was throwing: "That's what it looked like"

@CarrieMuskat: Castillo: "His velo was there, breaking pitches there. They were just on the pitches he threw. #Cubs

Tipping pitches or stealing signs?

If he's inferring it's stealing signs it wouldn't be the first time a team or player has accused them of it within the last few years. I think the Cardinals have done it and for some reason the Rockies and Pirates stick out to me.

They don't have a huge homefield advantage record-wise, so I don't see how this holds weight unless you thought they wanted to stick it to Samardzija.

They wouldn't be the first or even the second team to bring up sign stealing at Miller Park. Numbers don't bear that out this year so far, but it wouldn't be an entirely out of left field thought.

I thought sign stealing came mostly out of center field.

You may be willing to trust Bernie Brewer, but that guy is up to something.

If Olt is out and Bryant goes to OF doesn't that make 3b the obvious landing spot for Baez? Lot easier to find a 2b, and especially with Watkins (and others) near ready as 2b.

Easy fix for sign stealing. Shark's 98 mph heater in Braun's backside, with the verbal message-stop stealing signs.

Then let 'em know it'll happen every time they think it's happening.

Sooner or later Braun will tell them to quit.

Unfortunately it's far from a given that Baez will be ready next year. If he is, and feels more comfortable at 3B, that's where he should play. But I think Baez at 2B and a Valbuena/Olt platoon at 3B is the best combo we could come up with with the players currently available. If Baez goes to 3B, I don't think we have a better option than Valbuena for 2B.
