I also have to imagine now that he's playing a little CF, he's actually relatively close to getting called up.

If one were to read into the fact that Alcantara has played a game in CF, would the most logical reason be that there have been team's asking about Bonifacio in trade talks?

I assume it's because they see Baez as the long term 2B.

What's more ridiculously unbelievable, that Bryant has a SLG of 1.091 over his last ten games, not OPS...SLG, or that he is fast approaching an SLG over .700 on the season?

I wonder how many years in a row the Astros can have the No. 1 overall pick and botch it.

Yeah, Correa is definitely a bum. If you only land the 2nd best player in the draft (debatably) that's definitely a botch job.

Yeah, Correa is definitely a bum.

Correa doesn't have to be a bum for it to be a botch for them. He would have been a fine No. 2 or No. 3 pick in that draft.

Then it has been since 1993 (Arod) since the first pick hasn't been "botched".

No. This isn't a case of Steve Trout in the mid-20s becoming the best player in the draft several years later. Both of the last two Astros picks involved prospects who were better in ways that either were obvious at the time (Very few people seriously thought Correa was the best pick in that draft) or should have been seen (Kris Bryant has been mashing since he set foot in pro ball in way that says he probably should have been realized to be the No. 1 overall 11 months ago).

Few people had Bryant as the No. 1 guy overall last year either. You are revising history if you think otherwise.

This conversation is suspended until you read better.

I wrote a big retort and then remembered Gray. I'm sorry, you could say "botched" for that one. Otherwise there is just the silly semantic battle on whether Correa was an actual "botch".

But my point was: drafting is very, very difficult

Must of been a real weak draft class

Don't be ridiculous. There was never any draft until the early 40s. And back then, the only signing bonuses were a haircut, a rifle, and an eye exam.

I was out grabbing breakfast this morning and the radio was talking about the stupid Cubs so I thought about NSBB from last night and almost immediately knew that there was a 100% chance I had said Steve at that point in the conversation. It was a total guarantee.

I'd think it just has to do with having plenty of 2B options but very few OF options.

Think you may be confusing Steve for Dizzy. Steve was drafted in the 1st round in 76, and it was a real weak first round. Unless I am missing you sarcasm:)...if so green font for the old and naive.

Editor of Baseball America was on WSCR this morning pushing the completely unacceptable, attention-seeking opinion that the Astros have messed up their last two No. 1 picks and that it reflects poorly on their draft strategy.

Who was it - Lingo or Manuel?

Manuel

He wasn't exactly ripping Lunhow, but he talked about how it's been hard to read what the Astros are going to do because he's not a baseball lifer and doesn't have a lot of friends in the industry.

Manuel was critical on their strategy on Twitter the past week or so; I was wondering if someone else at BA was also agreeing with him.

Tim (CC): Looking back now, which was better? Buxton or Correa+McCullers?

Pre-Draft Chat with Nick J. Faleris: I think the question is which process yielded the better result? Still too early to tell. Both were valid takes given the composition of the class. The determining factor might be whether or not Rio Ruiz develops into anything of substance, long term. Reports have been better this year, but that's really what the Correa signing bought. You could have fit Buxton and McCullers under the soft cap.
