Ah, that's what I was afraid of. Couldn't remember if the MLE can take you over the cap or not. Guess trying to sweeten the hell out of a Boozer for Melo swap is about our only option, short of using Taj and others for the same thing.

We can clear cap room to sign him outright. We'd just prefer not to because we can put together a better team.

Not to offer a max though, which in the end, I expect Melo to get. Knicks or a sign and trade. I just doubt he's going to leave money on the table.

(I'm not 100% sure this is correct...but I think it is)

OK, that sounds doable. But getting rid of Taj(unless its for a pick that truly contributes) and waiting on Mirotic....I'm not sure that's enough myself. I'm guessing that means no Afflalo too, right?

He's right in that we technically can get there, but in that scenario he posted we are starting Greg Smith at PF and our bench consists of two late first round rookies and mostly league minimums. Not saying I wouldn't consider it if it were our only option, but that team isn't winning a title next season. And if Melo's conceding next season, he's probably staying with the Knicks, getting his extra $, and seeing who the Knicks get in FA next offseason.

So you're saying he'd be signing a one year deal with them?

I don't think that option will actually be necessary, FWIW.

My bad. Extending with the Knicks I mean. His whole point of leaving NY is that he doesn't want to punt next season. While i'm sure the Bulls would find a way to be good, Thibs would run them into the ground with 4 starters and nobody else, and I doubt they do that much damage in the playoffs. I think he'd take his extra 30 million (assuming NY will give it). Or just go somewhere else, assuming the Bulls would end up that gutted.

But I don't think it'll be necessary either, like you said. If he does leave, I think they'll work a S&T, or he takes 18 mill or so if his team keeps enough guys.

Frank Isola ripped Webber on Twitter over his comments about the Bulls/Thibodeau and got a response out of Webber

Frank Isola @FisolaNYDN · 13h

Got to love that line from Chris Webber as he takes a shot at Tom

Thibodeau: "Anyone can play hard." Really? Wasn't exactly true of Webber

Frank Isola @FisolaNYDN · 13h

Chris Webber also says Thibodeau is not a good offensive coach. Does Coach Webber realize Bulls won 48 games without their best player?

Frank Isola @FisolaNYDN · 13h

Can you imagine how insufferable the Fab 5 would be if they actually won something?

Chris Webber @realchriswebber · 2h

@fisolanydn I just read your comments. Because I said Melo shouldn't go to chi you spit Venom about me - friends and my game? Cornball

Frank Isola @FisolaNYDN · 2h

I knew @realchriswebber would get upset that Juwan Howard was my favorite Fab 5 guy.

Frank Isola @FisolaNYDN · 2h

Joking? This is a dead serious matter. (And thanks for reading me) RT @realchriswebber: Oh now we joking? you're a clown!

If we end up using our draft picks, I'd like one to be on Saric. Just signed a new 3 year deal so he'd be a great draft and stash. He might fall now that it's known he won't be coming over until 2017.

On a side note, why do they have the draft before free agency even begins?

Completely agree on both points. Saric, if nothing else, can be an asset like Mirotic has been.

NFL has free agency first, which is great. In basketball where 1 or 2 guys make such a huge difference, it's so weird to have the draft first. Let's say the Bulls trade both picks to free up space for Carmelo and then he signs elsewhere, that would suck. Or let's say the Cavs sign LeBron, wouldn't he/anyone want to have their voice in who the team they are going to drafts #1 overall?

Why couldn't they move free agency up to 1 week after the season and then move the draft back to early/mid July? Hell, have it the day after the baseball All Star Game to maximize exposure/ratings. There would still be enough time for the joke known as NBA Summer League to happen after that.

How much does Rose's injury history factor into Melo's decision?

No idea. But it'd affect the hell out of mine, if I were choosing. There's no way you can just assume he's healthy or ever will be what he was before. On top of that, his recruiting would surely at least HELP in trying to alleviate these concerns. Oh, that's right, nevermind, he's only going to recruit Hinrich.

Noah and Thibs help a ton though, it's up to them to get this done. As unfair as it may be.

If the Bulls sign and trade for Melo with Boozer, is it all but assured that Melo will get the max and the extra year?

the s&t does nothing for the player anymore (beyond, in this case, allowing for better roster construction for him). you can't get the extra year on s&t's anymore.

NBALegion(180k followers) says we're offering Taj, Snell, 16, and 19 for Love. If they want Jimmy instead of Snell, I'd do it and not think twice.

The Golden State offer is better. But can they sign Love long term?

The Golden State offer supposedly was never on the table, according to some reports.

Cause Minnesota probably said no. Golden State just denying.

Brian Windhorst is filling in for Stephen A Smith on an NY radio station today - says there's still a realistic possibility that Love and Melo are both Bulls in 2 weeks.

Well if that happens...holy [expletive], that would be fun.
