#Cubs optioned alcantara, watkins, soler, szczur. Assigned: bryant, valdez, almora, pimentel, jokisch. cunningham granted his release

:( :( :(

That shows that Baez is definitely closer than Bryant, although most people knew that.

Did anyone but Jesse Rogers not know that?

I still think Vitters has a shot as a 5th OF/Pinch Hitter. I still think he can hit. His defense is laughable but he has not played a ton of OF has he?

So far this spring he's been buried on the apparent depth chart, struck out 6 times in 11 PAs, dropped a fly ball, been picked off, and never been a former Red Sox. He's doomed.

Well, if Vitters has anything remotely positive to cling to, it's that Watkins was sent down before him. He's likely higher on their "we don't want to DFA this guy" list than Watkins is anyway.

I guess with the latest cuts, there will be a few more ABs and innings for potential 25 man guys. Who else is behind due to injury, other than Olt and Starlin?

James Russell. Otherwise, we've been remarkably healthy.

spring OPS

Baez: 1.190 (21 PA)

Almora: 1.182 (11 PA)

Olt: 1.095 (21 PA)

Rizzo: .979 (20 PA)

Bryant: .977 (12 PA, .182 AVG, 58% K)

Soler: .808 (11 PA)

It's like murderer's row all over again. We should get a t-shirt made to commemorate.

EDIT: Don't forget Castro, with a 2.500 OPS (2 PA)

In fairness...it seemed like a good idea at the time, before it became a symbol of disaster in the Dusty era.

I wonder if Olt had a 21 PA stretch of 1.095 OPS all year last year (he probably did in that mini hot streak right before the trade after manny was getting credit for giving him pointers - but i just wanted to say that)

From 6-16 to 6-19 at AAA Round Rock, he went 6-for-17 with 2 2b, 3 HR, 2 BB for a slash line of 353/421/1.000 1.421 OPS.

Was that a curveball?

I think I heard it called a hanging slider when they had played the Mariners announcers call of it earlier on the radio.
