For the life of me I don't know what Lake has done to deserve the beating he takes here.

Came up empty on 34% of his swings.

Doesn't matter. He can develop the ability to make more contact and hit for way more power.

Yeah, everyone can.

Yeah, my expectations for Lake aren't high at all given his issues, but I wouldn't consign him to the scrap heap yet, that's for sure.

Welp, I missed that, I guess. I stand by what I said though. In a lost season, I'd give him a shot to work some of it out or crash and burn.

My expectations for Lake are somewhere between Carlos Gomez pre-2012 (sans defense) and Starling Marte last year.

Cargo 2.0 pre-2012 minus the defense might be right, but I wouldn't call it a baseline.

I had no idea Choi was in the HR Derby.

Youtube confirms:

Ahh yes. IIRC, they wanted to get a participant from each of the represented countries in baseball to help promote the first year of the WBC. Choi was the only Korean hitter at the time I think who had any sort of name recognition, so by default he was selected.

so you are saying he can't possibly hit for more power

No, I'm not saying he can't....What I am saying is that it is nevertheless very unlikely that he will ever hit for enough to justify his inability to make contact. He's pretty terrible at both.

Yeah...I'm starting to wonder if this is what it looks like right before your minor league system produces a couple of superstars and you get really good really fast.

It's [expletive] nuts. Seems like everyday someone is doing something insane.

I love the spring training fantasy highs. It's so easy to believe when there's no meritocracy ruthlessly crushing you.

So how are we feeling, overall, about Olt's chances to open with the team at this point, assuming he manages to get on the field and play 3B?

If the Cubs believe that Olt is "fixed" and is a potential long term Major League player, is there any chance they send him back to AAA for a few months so he doesn't accumulate the service time? He would only need to stay down a few more weeks than Baez.

With his age and the organizational depth at 3B, I don't expect they would send him to AAA if they believe he is ready, but I wouldn't put it past this front office to want to buy themselves another year.

He's got 63 days of service time already. You'd have to hold him down half the year.

You'd also be holding him down to preserve what, his age 32 season?

My calculations were apparently a bit off.

I think it was either a curve that didn't curve or a change up that stayed up

Yeah, it was a changeup

Was that a curveball?

Curveballs tend to jump a little out of the hand. And you don't usually see hanging sliders that high. I'm guessing change-up.

It was a change.

ETA: I got distracted and forgot to hit the Submit button. I swear IMB's post wasn't there when I first posted.

I guess it's time to start following baseball again this year. I can't say I've done whole a lot of that in the last two years.
