I knew coming into Spring Training that we were going to get a lot of Mike Olt fluff pieces.... but I still can't help myself, I'm excited for him this year

I knew they were coming, but from writers like Muskat. Wittenmyer seems predisposed to taking shits on anything positive, so this gets my attention more than most fluff pieces.

But we'll see, I guess.

Some Mike Olt fluff from Wittenmyer

....................

I guess we'll see. Hopefully, this'll turn out better than the Brett Jackson magic swing fluff from last year.

Call me crazy, but I'm buying it. I think we might actually get something out of him, at least it's orders of magnitude more likely than BJax turning it around, imo.

And Wittenmyer isn't exactly known for his fluff pieces.

In the last two days, between this and the Almora piece, he has been fluffy as [expletive].

That said, if Olt is actually a thing....with Baez at 2B, that is just some stupidly ridiculously absurd power in the infield...and then the possibility of Soler and Bryant at the corners...goodness.

I hadn't read the Almora piece. But yeah, if Olt becomes anything approximating what was expected of him a year ago, it's going to be a nice problem to have.

MESA, Ariz. — On a back field at the Cubs’ spring-training complex Saturday during a casual round of batting practice, Mike Olt was shagging flies — with a bat.

He gave chase to one ball slicing away from him in left field, reached out one-handed on the run and, with a lunging swing, “fouled” it over the wall.

This seems kinda dangerous and reckless, no? Is this a common thing guys do?

I don't think it's common, but considering they're on a back field at the complex(no fans/bleachers, not as many players), I don't really think it's dangerous either.

It helps with tracking. It's a very behavior analytic thing to do. I love it. I'd love to see guys like Jackson, Castro, and Lake to stand in the box for 20 pitches calling the pitch and location as the ball is heading toward the plate.

That's actually Clayton Kershaw.

June 13-16 at the River Cats... that's a 50-50 proposition I think. Not sure if I should root for it or against it.

I'm definitely going to one of those games regardless but it would be great to see Baez there.

For some reason I thought the Iowa Cubs came here last year and was pleasantly surprised to find out they didn't when I looked it up a couple weeks ago.

I'm going to the Saturday game at least.

If I had to guess, they're asking a bunch of Cubs to say "you're watching Chicago Cubs baseball" or some [expletive] and are keeping them on file just in case.

I get that, but he's not even worth the time.

You say that now, but when we've sold off our entire OF by August 1, BJax will be one of the best-known starters.

Rizzo, Baez, Olt, Bryant, Soler... we could have 5 guys in the future lineup capable of hitting 30HR a season. Some of them 40+HR. 4 of them will still likely be under the age of 25. Swoon.

Even at 20-25 HR for the others with Baez and Bryant maybe at 30+, that would be stupid awesome. Especially given what offense is like now.

This guy definitely took his nasty ass hat and put it on his kid's head so Almora would sign it and he would look like less of a creepy autograph seeky guy.
