It is still amazing how some people don't understand that all these draft misses are compiling into a major problem for the Bears.

It takes at least 31 posts ranting about something before I learn.

Sometimes I do rant, my bad. But seriously, it was more like 5 posts 8-)

RT @brian_mcintyre: The Bears converted $5M of Jay Cutler’s $22.5M base salary into a signing bonus, creating $4M in 2014 cap space.

That's interesting. Allen possibly?

According to an NFL source, the Bears have $10.46 million in cap room after the restructure of Cutler and release of wide receiver Earl Bennett. The team is going to need space to sign the rookie class and ample room to operate during the season.

It is doubtful the Bears cleared the room last week in an effort to make a major signing this week or in the future because the goal in putting the automatic conversion clause in the contracts was to create a “use as you go” system for managing the salary cap. Emery and contract negotiator Cliff Stein don’t want to “borrow” cap space if it isn’t going to be used. Theoretically, if the team was going to pursue a major free agent like defensive end Jared Allen, it could wait to create cap space needed to potentially sign him if and when that deal came together. In other words, Emery wouldn’t go creating cap space last week for a deal that wasn’t imminent.

Allen would be awesome. Allows the Bears to go S or CB in the first

Biggs is stuck in Jerry Angelo's world. If you need operating room for in-season type moves, you'd do it when it comes up, wouldn't you? Since it can be restructured as often as needed? Plus, taking out that much for future moves seems odd because there's no guarantee it would even be used and you'd have gone into Cutler's deal for nothing.

How much does our Rookie Pool figure to cost? Also how much room do you really need to operate in season? I thought something like only you're top 50 salaries count against the cap. Do you ever really sign guys for above minimum mid-season?

It's the top 51 and our rookie pool will cost right around 5 mill IF they all make the roster. Which I doubt happens and if it did, some would just replace others already included in the 51.

Ratliff cost more than the minimum last year. Not sure how much, but typically you don't need more than a couple million. And u can always restructure someone with a long term deal in season. They must be using the money. I would have thought extending Marshall or restructuring Jennings would have come first if not.

Ihedigbo went to the Lions. Chris Clemons possibly a target? I don't think we have enough cap room(currently anyway minus rookies) for it to be Allen, the more I think about it.

They don't have to worry about the rookies til May. They can spend all 10.46Mil on Allen if they want. I don't think it would be more than a Peppers' like contract, and he only has a 7.5M guaranteed and a 3.5 cap hit this year. He wants Ware money, but I think he could be had for Peppers money. Still not sure I actually want him though.

Could there be something in the works regarding DeSean Jackson?

Dear god, that would be ridiculous. What are they saying Jackson would cost? I doubt whatever the assets it would take would be worth it from the Bears perspective.

Rumor is they're asking for a 3rd and no one is willing to pay that price, so might be able to be had for less or just cash if he really is released at the meetings as is anticipated.

They can't release him. Would be a 12.5Mil dead cap hit. Can't restructure him because he won't agree to it. Can't trade him because nobody wants to pay him the rest of his 5 year/48Mil contract (4 years left) AND give up a 3rd round pick.
