Peppers will flash and disappoint. Nagging injuries have really slowed him. I would think adding a veteran TE or WR would have better served the Packers

Peppers is over the hill but he'll allow Clay Matthews to see fewer double teams which will really help their defense.

@LRiddickESPN: Peppers saying he & #Packers have not talked in detail about what the plan is as far as how he will be used. Why not? I don't get that.....

I could be mistaken, but I think they have around $10 mil of cap space left even after adding peppers. They still should have some money to add guys.

Stephen A. Smith thinks that the reason Peppers (and the Bears' defense as a whole) stunk last season was the switch from Lovie to Trestman.

I think the switch from Lovie and Marinelli to Trestman and Tucker (and the Canadian/inexperienced staff) definitely played a major part. Peppers, who by all accounts needs to be motivated to perform, did not perform as well as he could last year. Briggs barely bought in to the new regime and seemed to hold a grudge all year long.

Has Briggs ever not held a grudge? I just think when an older player falls off like that it has more to do with him simply getting older as opposed to not being motivated; Smith's main point centered around the Bears' terrible run defense, so Peppers basically didn't get a lot of the opportunities he had before, but it was pointed out right away that when Peppers was good he was effective against both the run and the pass.

Idonije meeting with Bears tomorrow.

Hope it's to coach, ala Chris Harris. He's pretty much done. No reason to even take up a 90-man spot for him.

It's funny that Emery said the defense would definitely be younger next year. So far, he's gone from DJ Williams, Briggs, Tillman, and Jennings to a year older version of all those players. From Melton (start 2013) to a much older Jeremiah Ratliff. From Wright and Wootton to the older Mundy and Young. Conte's also still penciled as a starter and is a year older than last year (obviously). The only positions that have gotten younger are going from Peppers to Houston and from James Anderson to whoever wins the job between Bostic and McClellin at SLB.

why would that be necessary? it's no secret what Pep does. they know what they're getting, and he knows what he does. exact detailed plans aren't needed.

Yeah, what are they going to talk about?

Has he ever played in a 3-4 scheme?

No, he hasn't.

I wouldn't expect detailed scheme plans but are we at least assuming "hand in dirt or not" was discussed? I don't imagine Peppers would make the switch to OLB this late in his career but maybe he doesn't care since it's probably his last big contract.

Despite his rep as a pass rusher can't see him taking more than a 10-12 snaps at OLB per game (in specific situations). As a DE in a 3 front it will be a little different but he does have quite a bit experience moving inside in the 4 front.

@ESPNChiBears: Filed to http://t.co/mnFHigRV1y: #Bears ask KR/WR Eric Weems to take pay cut. Will be released if he declines, per sources.

Apparently the Bears made the same request of Earl Bennett.
