It appears Melton is finding out that he's not as in demand as he thought he would be. He's on to visit St. Louis next.

He's had visits with several teams, so there's definitely some interest around the league. Maybe his asking price is too high given the issues he's had.

I don't know, I feel kind of bad for a player who gets a serious injury at the exact worst time contract-wise. He never had a chance to come back and prove himself on the field before trying to sell himself around the league. It's got to be tough.

The only real interest in Melton is trying to gauge how bad his injury is, and from the length he's been on the market I'd say teams don't think it's very good.

@LRiddickESPN: Not that surprising Melton is still on the market. Pre-Injury tape in '13 is poor, & is coming off an ACL? No thanks. Wait till after draft.

@LRiddickESPN: Competitiveness issues very frustrating when watching him play. Should be so much better than he is. Needs strong group around him.

@LRiddickESPN: @asuram79 Let's say it was because of not "having Marinelli". If that is the case, then what does it say for his intrinsic motivation, and..

@LRiddickESPN: @asuram79 ...if you are not Dallas, what would be the impetus to sign him at this time? No need to. Wait until after the draft & re-evaluate

Did the Bears have contract discussions with him before/after franchise tag? If so he had an option, unless the Bears were drastically low balling him, to ensure longer term stability. Instead he chose to play a season getting paid like a top 5 player at his position (I'd argue he is clearly not close to top 5) and risk something like this happening.

I think he's top 5. Or was the last time he finished a season. That's why I don't get the "should be much better than he is" from a couple posts up. I thought he had at least a couple seasons in the top 5-10 at his position pretty firmly. I don't know how he "should" be better, considering he was a college RB, DE, then an NFL redshirt rookie, then a DE in his 2nd year. It wasn't until his 3rd year in the league when he was firmly entrenched at DT.

I understand not signing him. But I don't know how nobody has nothing good to say about a guy that was an All-pro 2 years ago and his team thought enough of him to not let him hit the FA market that offseason.

I think that comment was specifically based on tape seen early in '13, pre-injury. So those 2-3 games.

Peppers didn't even show up until game 4, so if by "needs strong group around him" Riddick means that he'll need more than ghosts playing alongside, then I agree with him -- and several other teams should be able to provide that

@AdamHoge: #Bears agree to terms with safeties Craig Steltz and Danny McCray. Both 1-year deals.

Melton is a Cowboy.

@mikecwright: Bears never made Melton an offer, according to source. They expected him & his agent to go find market value & then come back.

This Riddick guy might want to stop tweeting

Why is that?

We're a long way from Summer.

I don't get the relevance but I definitely agree. [expletive] this winter.
