McNeil and Speigel just had some guy on that said Shea and Bostic are going to compete for the SAM LB spot in camp next year. That seems like a really terrible idea considering Shea gets blown to bits trying to play the run.

Some guy, like a random caller with an idea, or some guy, like a new LB coach?

A reporter type who seemd to have a clue. Don't remember the name. It was in the 11:00 hour if you want to look for it.

New mock draft from first-pick.com again...

This time around, I traded the 14th pick to 49ers for their 1st (30th), 2- 2nd (23rd/30th), and a 3rd (11th). I feel like Bears will have to give up a 4th or 5th round pick if this was real, but maybe 49ers will be that desperate. They ended up getting Mike Evans with that pick. Really like how this mock draft came out from the Bears POV.

Your Picks:

Round 1 Pick 30 (S.F.): Kony Ealy, DE, Missouri (Doubtful, but the 1st round of this mock draft was umm... odd. Sankey/Tre Mason/Seastrunk all went plus a couple other questionable picks so Ealy slid all the way here.)

Round 2 Pick 14: Loucheiz Purifoy, CB, Florida

Round 2 Pick 23 (S.F.): Aaron Donald, DT, Pittsburgh

Round 2 Pick 30 (S.F.): Ahmad Dixon, SS, Baylor

Round 3 Pick 11 (S.F.): Weston Richburg, C, Colorado State

Round 3 Pick 14: Dominique Easley, DT, Florida

Round 4 Pick 14: Donte Moncrief, WR, Ole Miss (While I don't think they would go WR here, I really couldn't figure out who Emery would draft at this point. Maybe an offense pick like QB/RB/OL?)

Round 5 Pick 14: Stanley Jean-Baptiste, CB, Nebraska

Round 6 Pick 7: Ryan Carrethers, DT, Arkansas State

Round 6 Pick 14: Colt Lyerla, TE, Oregon

I also have a question for you guys... It's about potential trades during draft. Lets say with the 14th pick, Emery has 3 guys that he rated similarly or none that he's crazy about and 2 teams calls him about trading that 14th pick. One is the 49ers package above and the other is lets say... Eagles 1st/2nd/3rd (22nd pick in all 3). Which one would you take? Is the 8 picks in the 1st worth more than getting that extra 2nd?

Just curious as to where you guys would draw the line in saying... "Ok. That extra pick is worth more than so and so."

To an extent, I think that answer varies based on salary cap room, roster projections, guaranteed contracts already on the roster, etc. If I'm filling out the Bears roster, assuming we're staying at a 4-3, I'm valuing the Eagles picks- because I need the highest impact players most likely to make the roster, and the lower picks (in theory) give that chance. If I'm turning over to a 3-4 or hybrid, I'm likely looking at the 49ers picks, as I need more bodies, because there are likely to be more open positions on the roster, and with a 1st and 2-2nds I'm still likely getting good players.

Just for fun, my most recent from first-pick (highly unrealistic, assumes transition to 3-4 or hybrid, and off-season conversion of Kyle Long to OT):

Round 1 Pick 17 (DAL): Louis Nix, DT, Notre Dame

Round 2 Pick 14: David Yankey, OG, Stanford

Round 2 Pick 16 (BALT): Bradley Roby, CB, Ohio State

Round 2 Pick 21 (G.B.): Aaron Donald, DT, Pittsburgh

Round 3 Pick 21 (G.B.): Carl Bradford, OLB, Arizona State

Round 4 Pick 3 (JAX): Donte Moncrief, WR, Ole Miss

Round 4 Pick 14: Chris Davis, CB, Auburn

Round 4 Pick 16 (JAX): Bryan Stork, C, Florida State

Round 4 Pick 22 (PHI): Brandon Linder, OG, Miami (Fla.)

Round 5 Pick 3 (JAX): Boseko Lokombo, OLB, Oregon

Round 5 Pick 14: James Wilder Jr., RB, Florida State

Round 5 Pick 22 (PHI): Aaron Murray, QB, Georgia

Round 5 Pick 29 (PHI): Demarcus Lawrence, DE, Boise State

Round 6 Pick 7: DeDe Lattimore, ILB, South Florida

Round 6 Pick 14: Colt Lyerla, TE, Oregon

Round 7 Pick 3 (JAX): Antone Exum, CB, Virginia Tech

I don't know much about most of the players on the backend of this draft, nor do I think the Bears actually would go this way. But, a mid round C, late round RB, and mid to late CB/KR are essential for the future of the roster.

Better then talking about drive by truckers over and over and over and over and over and over and over ...............,

I literally haven't talked about them forever unless someone brought them up first. You can do better....quick, make a jorts joke

Have any of his Bears rumors happened yet?

so this thread is going to be 17 Bears mock drafts for the next 4 months? UGHHHH

There's tons O'Irony here considering the source...

It's been quiet lately on the FA market and minus bringing Tucker back not much at all.

Ahmad Dixon would be an excellent 3rd round pick. Dude is a hard hitting head hunter back in the defensive backfield. He borders on the dirty/clean line quite often but I'd much rather have those kind of guys on my team then on the opponent's team.

Dude. We're down to Bear mock drafts, and perverted Cub mascot renderings. That's it.

If you've got something better that you're holding out on, please feel free to post it.

Jeez, if there's one thing worse than discussing Cubs prospects on NSBB, it's Bears prospects. /derwood

I'm just asking if this is going to sustain your interest for 4 months

Because discussing the 2014 Cubs Roster since September hasn't sustained mine

Nah, I'm planning on ignoring the NFL until 2014 opening kickoff.

Of course there's no gray area in between, good call

I don't get what derwood is fretting about. The Cutler issue was poised to be the biggest story of the offseason, and that was settled. The other contenders for that story included the vets already resigned, whether Peppers will be retained and what will happen with the defensive staff. That stuff has either been settled or will take quite a while to be settled. The draft and free agency are the other things on the agenda that will be in focus. They will each take turns at the forefront of discussion. It's pretty pointless to whine about mock drafts at this point.

I'm wondering if we'll even see any more of our own FA sign back before FA starts. Wootton just had surgery that could affect his FA market somewhat, Melton is coming off injury and now a legal issue(even if it's not his fault) and Tillman seems to not be a high priority for us either. Ratliff evidently wants multiple years, while he may not be our highest priority among our own DT's, much less what may be on the market.

If we DO make any more moves prior to FA, my guess is it'd be DJ, or Garza, since both seem likely to sign back cheaply.

This isn't just a rumor, Emery pretty much said that Shea is out of position and will be tried at Linebacker. The only position that he can most likely play is SAM.
