So a Toyota dealership in Auburn will repay buyers for any car purchased the week before the game IF the Tigers shut out Bama. Here's the commercial.

How many cars does a dealership sell in a day? I have no idea, but I have to think that's the best odds to win 25 grand in a contest I've ever seen.

I think it's a fairly risky bet on the dealership's part. While the odds are astronomically against any team shutting down the Tide, I can't imagine the dealership surviving this if the fluke happens. There will be enough Auburn fans that will give it a shot just for the heck of it.

Can a small-town operation like this get insurance on a competition like this the same way stuff like Pepsi did? Is it worth it to them in a case like this?

There's fine print in the commercial that says the "free car" bit would be paid out by an insurance company.

I think it's pretty common any more, do you remember the Chicago-area furniture store that was making all purchases free from the last month if it snowed something like 6+ inches on Christmas?

I always knew Nebraska fans were delusional but cripes

Call me names if you like, but I'd certainly appreciate you not generalizing and showing disrespect for an entire group of people based on what I'm posting.

I grew up near a lot of husker fans so my generalization and disrespect has very little to do with you.

Just wait until Illinois football regains their championship form...

...although I'd be content with simply winning one league game right now.

We're breaking all sorts of records. Like worst record in school history, most points scored against us ever, most points ever scored by an opponent at Ross Ade, being shut out in consecutive games, opposing defenses outscoring our offense for three weeks. :stickman:

I think Nebraska is more like Penn State (nothing to dow with child rapers) than Iowa or Wisconsin. Their star has faded, but they still have an abundance of tradition and pride. I think Michigan is going this way too. Notre Dame is already there and if they ever join a conference it will only become more apparent.

I think PSU, ND and Michigan all can rebound and become National powers again. PSU and Mich have a lot of alumni, fill up their 100,000 seat stadiums religiously, strong national brands and closer to good recruits. Honestly who really are the blue blood programs anymore? Alabama obviously.....then LSU.....then ???. It wouldn't surprise me if in 3 yrs Michigan or ND were knocking on the NT door anymore then the current top 10 programs.

Being known as a "Blue Blood" university in college football isn't something you earn over a decade - it's something you earn over a century+. Blue Bloods are schools that have 700+ wins and a .700+ winning percentage. There are exactly 8:

Michigan

Ohio State

Notre Dame

Oklahoma

Alabama

Texas

USC

Nebraska

Other schools like LSU, Tennessee, Penn State, etc. are close but no cigar. The Huskers are also one of 8 schools that have 800 or more wins (replace USC with Tennessee on the previous list.) Again, people can bash the Huskers all they like, but the tradition and history don't lie.

you sound sorta crazy with all your posts about this.

Man I know the feeling. It was really sad how excited I was last week beating WVU. If we best ISU this weekend, I may lose my mind.

I didn't know there was a statistical definition of a blue blood program. I learned something today.

In double checking, Pelini has actually done a little better at Nebraska than I remembered, it's not quite fair to say they're another Iowa. They're a lot closer to that than they are to being a consistent Top 10 team though.

The big disconnect is the talk of "demanding conference championships" while at the same time only expecting Top 25 recruiting classes. Between the last 2 games and a bowl, the odds seem pretty good for Nebraska to finish with 9 wins, which would give Pelini 9.5 wins per year over 6 years, as well as another finish between 15-25. That's what you should expect from Nebraska as an average. To demand regular performance above that would not only be silly, as in the modern recruiting age that hasn't been something Nebraska is capable of, but it also runs counter to the expectation that Nebraska be "good, but not great" with recruiting classes.

Two items:

1. The insurance company will pay for the car. And an average dealership sells 100-200 cars per month.

2. On the FSU/Winston stuff, stop following it. I have sources on A LOT of stuff, and not one of them is batting above .100 on this incident. Everything that's been said has been false in some way, shape or form. News sources are really jumping the gun on the majority of this stuff, and there won't be any "truth" until a decision to charge or not is made. This is the ultimate decision of 'catastrofu'.

So at the low end, that's like a 1 in 200 shot of winning the money, factoring in Auburn's chances of winning the game.

You may want to re-think the wording on that advice about the Winston ordeal.

A little bit, yeah. But the comparison to Iowa and Wisconsin is deeply silly.

Bama hasn't drawn Georgia or South Carolina since 2010.

Also, rolltide.com is the official site for Bama athletics? Are you serious?

It's been a couple years, but when you call Alabama's general athletic department number, a woman answers with just "Alabama football," in a thick southern accent. And she is then inevitably shocked when you ask something about basketball/another sport.

Nix out for the year (knee surgery - thanks for the targeting, USC). His backup was already doubtful.

ND's starting DLine of Tuitt, Nix, Day logged just 23 plays together this year. The entire 2013 year has sucked balls.

They were never going BCS with Rees behind center so who cares, I wrote the season off as soon as Golson was gone.

ETA: And Golson kinda sucks

That's why I said the entire 2013 year. Start from Te'o getting calls before the Bama game even started, to the Bama game, the Te'o thing, Kiel, Vanderdoes, Golson, Tommy NOO!!!, Tuitt hurt, Day hurt, Nix hurt, blah blah blah. ND has fewer active, non-redshirt, scholarship players than an NFL team right now.

Oh, and Golson does not suck. What makes you think that?

Sportscenter's coverage of the Winston situation is fairly repulsive

I havent seen anything. What are they doing/saying?

Mostly focusing on how the rape affects his Heisman chances, with constant, "obviously this isn't important in the grand scheme of things...but"
