The more I look at Gausman, the more I want us to deal for him. I think I'd even be down for a straight up one for one with Shark, as Bowden suggested.

If we can somehow get Gausman and Rodriguez for Shark and Schierholtz, I'll be very happy.

It's Gausman's control, ground outs and K/BB ratio that I like. Plus he fits in better with the Cubs timeline as well. Straight up would be a last resort for me, but still doable. Given the O's win now mode you'd think the Cubs might be able to get more. McLouth is gone but with Urrutia on the horizon, I don't know how much interest they'd have in Schierholtz. They need depth in the OF and DH isn't exactly a strength for them, so maybe. There isn't much to get excited about in the Orioles system after Rodriguez, though. Mike Wright? Josh Hader? Parker Bridwell? All maybes.

Santana seems like a low-risk option as a 5th starter.

Johan Santana and Delmon Young seem like terrible ideas. Not worth the time or money.

I'm not opposed to Santana on a reasonable one year deal. I want no part of Delmon Young, though. Bad plate patience, terrible in the field and a bad attitude.

I'm not sure id give Young a league minimum, no incentives deal. Hell, I might not even extend him a minor league deal. NR ST invitee, maybe.

Santana will be cheap. One year deal with low guaranteed money and lots of incentives is all he's gonna be able to get I'd imagine. He'd be a good low risk, high reward type signing.

Delmon is a career .303/.341/.471 hitter against LHP in 1148 PA

Cubs, A's have a meeting set up for prior to start of WM- best guess is discussion on Brett Anderson. A's like Schierholtz, Barney- not saying 'Anderson for Schierholtz and Barney' just that the A's have asked about before recently and the Cubs FO seems in on Anderson...

But kissable, very kissable.

Would love some Brett Anderson, at the right price.

They've got Lowrie, Callaspo, and Punto for 2B and SS currently. Unless Callaspo is also dealt, I see no reason for them wanting or needing Barney.

I think Young would be interesting on a cheap contract with a team option - can't believe he is only 28 as I would have guessed him at 35

What would you give up for him? I like him as a bounceback candidate too, but he's thrown about 150 innings combined the last 3 years and got shelled last year. Plus, he's either 1/9.5 or 2/20 from FA depending on what you do with his option. If Anderson's going to require assets of significance to acquire, then he needs to either have no financial cost or you're better off bringing back Baker.

I don't think the price on Anderson will be very high, but I do think it's higher than Barney. Maybe even higher than Schierholtz. He's still young and as a lefty, my guess is he still has some cache. One of the BP guys thought Vogelbach and a lower level guy sounded about right. I don't know if it's quite that high, but I think it's closer to that than Barney.

At any rate, I can see Oakland getting an actual need filled in a deal for him. Although, looking at how their major league team sits currently, I'm not sure what they're even looking for. They need a frontline SP, but thats not happening in a deal for Anderson obviously. They've got Doolittle and Blevins as LHRP, maybe they'd take Russell for him? Maybe Villanueva?

I'd really try and expand it to get Reddick too. Maybe Anderson and Reddick for Villanueva/Schierholtz/Vogelbach?

I wanted Anderson 2 offseasons ago, but I wouldn't give up very much for him at this point. Barney would obviously be ideal, but I agree it'll take more than that. Schierholz, I'd rather use in a different way to get more out of or prospects in a trade.

I wouldn't give up more than say, Alberto Cabrera, or a similar upside arm that doesn't really have a spot on the Cubs, but could have some value to the As organization. No way would I give up Vogelbach or any top 15 prospect.

It's not about "what I would give up for him," it's about what they would accept for him. What do they have to gain from taking our garbage? Just because that's what Anderson's risk is worth to us, does not mean that's his "value."

You don't go into Best Buy (you shouldn't anyway, screw you derwood) and look at a $1,400 60-inch tv and go "well it would be nice, but I already have this nice 50 inch" and offer the store $400 for it because that's what it's worth to you.

Anderson is a refurbished Vizio, not a $1400 60".
