Everyone needs to realize that it means parting with Noah. I'm cool with that but I sense most won't be. Also ideally, it means making Melo a SF again and dealing with any defensive downside that entails. But Rose-Butler-Melo-Mirotic-Taj is a pretty intriguing lineup even if I think it's totally questionable if it's better than what we have now+Mirotic

It definitely does not mean trading Noah. There's essentially 2 ways to go. You either trade Boozer plus assets (picks and/or Mirotic's rights) in a sign and trade. Or amnestying Boozer and then trading off practically everyone except Noah, Rose, and maybe Butler/Snell for the cap space to sign Melo to a max deal.

We can definitely make it worthwhile for the Knicks to take back Boozers expiring contact, so I see that as the most likely route.

Rose

Snell/Butler

Melo

Gibson

Noah

Not bad.

Thibs has to be one of if not the best coach in the last 10-15 years. He's turned Bellineli, Augustin, Nate, Bogans etc into servicable players.

I'd take Pops first, but Thibs is in the conversation for #2.

La La Anthony "definitely" thinks her husband, free-agent-to-be Carmelo Anthony, will re-sign with the New York Knicks this summer.

"I definitely think he will stay," La La Anthony said in an interview with Bravo TV's "Watch What Happens Live." "I know that he wants to stay, and I support him wherever he wants to go.

What exactly does "definitely think" mean? Of course one's own thinking is definite.

Then again, La La doesn't strike me as a masterful linguist.

I'm not gonna pretend I've been watching the Bulls, but I'm sorry I missed this...

Just watched the Lenny Cooke movie. Wow, I didn't know any of that. Seems like a really good guy.

The report states that the Bulls would be giving up Carlos Boozer, Kirk Hinrich, Tony Snell, Jimmy Butler, and likely a first round pick as well. In return, Chicago would receive Carmelo Anthony, Raymond Felton, and Iman Shumpert.

Whats the upside for the Knicks? Snell and Butler are nice pieces, but having Boozer on the books next year means they probably can't add a star for at least another year.

Felton has been absolutely terrible this year and is making close to $4 m each of the next two years. Shumpert has been mediocre to poor (I think) this year and is making 4.3 mil split over the next 2 seasons. Melo can still opt out after this season (unless the trade is predicated on Melo resigning).

I just don't see the upside here for either team. Ok fine there's an upside to getting Melo, but if you believe Melo would sign with the Bulls, get him in the offseason, don't let him come here in a lame duck season (without Rose/Deng) and let him get a taste of Thibs (I guess you could spin this as a potential positive too) before becoming a FA. Sign and trade in the offseason.

Could the Bulls team that results from that trade take a run at the Pacers in a series?

No. I have a hard time seeing Melo and Thibs being a good fit for each other.

Maybe the Knicks can get below the lux tax with the move? Or at least minimize the penalty? Also maybe they really feel that Melo isn't coming back, at least they are getting something and not just losing him for nothing to FA.
