Arguello's response was predictably terrible.

Yep.

The only thing Cubs fans should care about is having an organization that has a chance to win every(*)year.

*of course, that is arbitrarily ignoring all the years they don't come close to winning.

I imagine this is the time of the year you get to the bottom of the 'article ideas' list.

Arguello is seriously just the worst ever. I'd let Cubs fandom have 10 more Al Yellons and 6 more Ronnie Woo-Woos if it mean he went away.

nooooooo lets not go that far

No one ever said "I've heard of Ronnie Woo-Woo so obviously he must be an expert"

If it wasn't for people bitching about him on NSBB, I wouldn't even know who Arguello is.

Hah, Bill Simmons is posting his first "Bill and Jalen's NBA Preview" at 12:01 AM ET tomorrow, one minute after his suspension is over.

Nothing besides those from him, though. I'm assuming there will be a column this afternoon? Wonder if he apologizes and goes about his business normally or just doesn't say anything and mails it in until his contract is up next year?

I'm guessing the latter. I think he will end his twitter silence after his first column goes up, but will only post links to his columns, podcasts, other grantland articles with no commentary. He will scale back heavily on columns and podcasts with his Grantland Basketball Show being the excuse and then leave when his contract is up. He will never address the suspension publicly.

When he's been suspended from twitter on the past, I believe he's come back heavily sterilized (just posting links to his content) for a period of time before slowly regaining a twitter personality.

It would seem crazy for him to leave ESPN, I don't think there's another outlet out there for him to make the kind of money he's getting now+the exposure on top of being able to largely run his own site and get to pick what type of content he personally does with the frequency seemingly being on him.

I guess maybe he just goes into the studio when his contract is up full time and then maybe does something on a smaller scale thru his own blog/site or something.

A star "talent" branching out on his own with the risk of less income over the near-term, but for greater opportunity in the long-term (financial and freedom from the bosses above) is a pretty common occurrence. Not sure what would be crazy about it.

Grantland was supposed to be his "branching out." They basically said "Hey Bill, Page 2's traffic is literally all being driven in by you how about we fund and let you run an entire site based on the premise." He seems to have been given quite a bit of freedom on Grantland, whether he will admit it or not. He's not getting into a situation where he's making more money by leaving ESPN/Grantland when his contract is up, the only thing he will get is a little more freedom. Which I understand valuing that but he seems to have plenty other than being able to swear on his podcasts and threaten ESPN.

It was a theoretical branching out that is really just him running a small department under the ESPN/Disney umbrella.

Which he's getting paid more to do than he would be making if he started his own site without ESPN/Disney's funding and ability to drive in traffic. That's my point, he's not going to be able to make as much money by starting billsimmons.com.

Unless FOX or one of the other networks trying to compete with ESPN wants to pony up to bring him on-board. I don't see him having a whole hell of a lot more freedom on most of those places, though. Maybe FOX, maybe.

And again, that ignores the point that pretty much every "star" that left one big corporation to start their own business goes through that same exact issue. In the short-term they take a hit, but it helps that they have already earned a lot of money and presumably have a sweet nest egg and very little nut. And in the end they leave for freedom from their corporate overlords and the opportunity to potentially become overlords themselves.

Yeah, I get what you are saying there. Just think it's a pretty big risk and obviously we don't know everything but it seems like Simmons has a overall pretty cushy gig at Grantland. Everyone has to put up with some sort of headache/annoyances at their job and a lot of the ones we get to see with Simmons largely come from him doing something dumb. It's not like he leaves all of the headaches at the door if he starts his own thing, they just get shifted to figuring out funding, advertising, staffing, etc.

barnwell put up a picks column. i can't believe simmons is going to do one as well. i think simmons may be in operation shutdown mode. no tweets, no podcasts, and no columns this week just nba preview videos that were presumably already shot before any of this happened.

Yup, I just noticed that. Barnwell didn't do a picks column weeks 1-3. His first picks column in week 4 was the first Friday that Simmons was suspended and has done one each week since.

And yeah I'm almost positive the videos posted so far were pre-suspension. Actually I read somewhere that an unknown number were shot before the suspension, and I think Bill and Jalen have been wearing the same clothes in each video so looks like they were all shot pre-suspension.

If there's no guess the lines podcast on Monday, the next big date to look out for is Tuesday October 21st when supposedly the Grantland Basketball Show will premier
