I can't put much thought into the Shawn Ryan stuff honestly. You don't think the Dodgers or Yankees have fans with the ability to do the same thing? And if this is important, you don't think they'd make those calls?

We may get Tanaka somehow, but it's not going to be because of a promise to get his wife on a TV show.

If I were to read anything into it (which I'm not, really), it wouldn't be that it might help get him here. It would be that he's seriously considering coming here.

Ah, good point.

I'm just saying that if her agents checked into it, and if I HAD to read anything into that, it would just be that they were thinking about coming here.

I can't see that offer convincing her to come here when I'm sure the Dodgers could also find someone to arrange something similar.

Dores anybody know what mrs tanaka is? It seems like she may or may not have been in a 8 person pop group that has been on a hiatus since 2006.

Her band is about what you'd expect from a Japanese pop group.

Pretty sure she is the one with the white flower bow in her hair.

And yep, that crowd is all grown men. Creepy.

And Warp, pretty sure he was in there, too.

I have questions on the signing but if this is who the FO feels is the must have guy, why isn't anyone talking 200 mil? All 5 teams they say are over 100.

If he is the make or break guy, then at 25 years old is 20 mil a year for 10 years crazy? He'd be 35 at the end, it would seem that it's a good bet his value stays high through 32 or 33.

You just gave Edwin Jackson a deal that equals 13 mil a year to be middle of the rotation guy.

Kershaw just got 30 mil as arguably the best pitcher going.

If he (Tanaka) is the type of pitcher they say, then any free agent pitcher in that class that comes on the market is probably going to cost more than 20 a year, by the time the contract is done-it may be a bargain.

With everything they say pointing him towards the west coast or the yankees, I think we will have to outbid everyone else substantially to get him....so "make him an offer he can't refuse"

Loxas and Arguello claiming that it's down to the Yankees and Cubs.

Better than the Dodgers and Cubs (or the Dodgers, Yankees, and Cubs).

Tanaka isnt going to want a 10-year contract. His agent just negotiated a nice opt-out clause for Kershaw and previously included a similar one for Greinke - I think that sort of clause will be included in whatever contract Tanaka signs too.

I don't think $20 M AAV is that outlandish for Tanaka. As you said, just check out the market rate for pitchers.

Loxas has been dead on recently. Said Tanaka wouldn't be posted, has been saying we had no shot, then ventured into football saying Cutler didn't know whether Bears even wanted to offer him a contract-only to see him sign his extension the following day.

I've been thinking an opt out clause is going to be necessary for the Cubs to land him, and might also be the team's ace in the hole in making him signing a reality. I'm hoping after the A-Rod situation the Yankees aren't interested in opt out clauses anymore.

At this point it probably just comes down to how much the Yankees want him. How much extra is each incremental dollar for the Yankees if they're over the luxury tax?

Hopefully he's right about the RTO agreement.

Yep, boys and girls. #Cubs are in this thing for reals. Good confirmation.
