@lencasperCubs moves so good that many people don't even know what they did today. Focus on players traded is missing the pt. Fun to watch process.

You are a very dull human if you think it is fun to watch the process that has been going on here.

Holy hell, YES. The Plan, the Process, whatever we want to call it...it's tedious.

I don't disagree.

I am trying my best to invest the time in following the minors so that at least I get the awesomeness of seeing that type of thing come together and because it's the only way I can glean much fun out of the Cubs right now. I never followed before.

It just sucks that it all has to take so god damn long (the player development stuff).

I totally get the people who are and have been long term fans of minor league baseball; and this current mess will probably get some new fans really into it, but the amount of people here who are suddenly hanging on every box score/PA/IP like they're trying SO HARD to convince themselves that they like it is pretty amusing.

Agreed. My buddy is a Giants fan, and we were discussing how the Giants have "tortured" their fans the past few years with all their close games. You want torture?? Try being a Cubs fan for over 30 years, then get back to me.

I can think of a lot worse teams to be a fan of than the Cubs over the last 30 years.

I started watching them in the 70's as a kid. So what have been the shining moments? 1984, 1989, 2003, all major disappointments...along with a bunch of horrible years. Being a Cubs fan is not easy.

He wasn't arguing that it's easy. But it would be much worse to be a fan of, say, Milwaukee, Pittsburgh or Baltimore over the last 30 years.

Uh, no. How are the Cubs brief flashes of being not terrible better than those teams in that period?

Also became a fan in the 70's. Dave Kingman, Manny Trillo, Bill Buckner, Rick Reuschel, Bruce Sutter and Ivan DeJesus along with HEY HEY from Brickhouse sucked me into being a cub fan. My first trip to Wrigley(from Iowa) the Cubs scored 1 run in 27 innings in a 3 game series with Dave Winfield led Padres in those god awful uniforms.

Some of the low points for me at least were the meltdown in 84, earth quake series San Fran 98, and of course the 2003 implosion.

I don't know about 30 years, but I can definitely tell you that I would much rather take the Cubs' past 20 over the Pirates' past 20, and if you don't see why then you're crazy. Probably than Milwaukee's too, but not by as much.

I'm not one of those people who takes the disappointment of losing after doing better worse than just doing worse. 2008 was amazing and one of my most enjoyable years as a Cubs fan. 2003 too. I'll take those "disappointments" over crappy years any day.

Same with the Bears losing in 2007. That year was awesome and the disappointment of losing that game doesn't overshadow the fact that losing later >>>>>> losing sooner.

03 alone makes it better than both those franchises. Pretending otherwise is foolish.

Pittsburgh had its own 2003 within the last 30 years.

I think I hit my rock bottom this week with daily checkups on possible 16 year old kid signings on the international market.

Which is why I used 20 years instead of 30. But even if we go 30, the fact that the Cubs have had six playoff appearances spread out over that time frame, while the Pirates have had just about nothing to show up to the ballpark to see for 20 consecutive years has to have some bearing. I mean even if you take out the Cubs' playoff appearances since 1992, at least there was a few seasons of Sammy mashing to watch.

It's been 20 years of baseball desolation in Pittsburgh.

I get that, but I was replying to illini's comment. I couldn't tell if he was talking about 20 years or 30 years. Anywho, the point stands from whoever said it, there are teams fan bases that have had it worse. Although that doesn't really help anything.

I was going off of the twenty, just replied to the wrong one.

I saw them play the Pad's too in the 77, wanna say it was my 2nd game, but it was a much better result than what you saw...Cubs won 23-6??!! Ivan DeJesus, Larry Biittner, Steve Ontiveros, and Bobby Murcer all went crazy that game.

I don't consider '03 a bad thing. At the time it sucked, but looking back on it, that was an awesome year to follow. I would love to have a lot more of them.

Yeah, but it clearly said 30, not 20. And even if you're narrowing it down to 20 then the answer is pretty much only the Pirates or the Royals as to who has been worse off, soooooo...aim big, I guess? The Cubs are indeed less terrible than other terrible teams.

Well, yeah. I've been a fan for nearly 30 years and I'd be very happy if the Cubs didn't win a WS in the next 30 so long as they were regularly competitive. When I hear people talk like they couldn't take it if the Cubs kept losing playoff series or a disappointing year like 2004 it makes no sense to me; years where you actually compete but don't pull it off in the end, even if it's a disastrous finish, is infinitely more satisfying to me than this monstrosity.

Please show your math. How is the Cubs' 2003 so much crazy better than the Brewers' 2011?

Is 7>6? I thought it was. Seems like we had a better run.

That seems pretty flimsy. The Brewers has a great regular season and were two victories away from the WS. To act like the Cubs had a way better year because they were one win away instead is really splitting hairs.

Oh it is, but it is a better year. Throughout the entire 20 years we pull ahead further. Look at the other playoff appearances. I know they ended crapilly, but the years were still enjoyable.
