I seem to recall reading that we were high on Torreyes once upon a time. Wasn't hitting well at AA this year, though.

The Cubs just acquired Houstons #2 and 3 slots for Ronald Torreyes.

those would be big slots, would they not?

Bleacher Nation says roughly 800k.

That's nice, big slots are good.[/grace]

Wow, I kind of hate trading a 20 year old that had more BB than K at AA for $800K worth of slot machines.

btw - Torreyes is now blocked by the player he's most often compared to.

Astros 2nd and 3rd slots are $458,400 and $316,300 ($784,700 total).

Cubs 4th slot is $213,000.

Yeah, I don't know much of anything about the minor leagues, but that seems like a lot to give up for just slot money. I'm kind of hating this new system.

Houston is cornering the market on "undersized" second basemen.

This has been crazy, obviously going to be a while before all this can be judged.

And, honestly, unless the money for Marmol is that big of a factor, I'd rather have just released him than take back Guerrier and also send slot money.

it has to be a factor if that's the deal. They saved $2.5m, which is relatively close to what they saved by dealing Feldman (presumably)

Cubs get:

- Jake Arrieta

- Pedro Strop

- Matt Guerrier

- $963,100 in International Bonus Pool money (total)

Cubs lose:

- Scott Feldman (to BAL)

- Carlos Marmol (to LAD)

- Steve Clevenger (to BAL)

- Ronald Torreyes (to HOU)

Is the only part of Marmol's contract we're paying the #4 slot? If so, we saved a truckload of money in these deals.

Edit:

Didn't realize Guerrier was that expensive.

Not a fan of sending a legitimate prospect for $800,000 in slot money.

No one has mentioned the Cubs shipping any money to LA apart from that slot, so at this point I'm guessing that's it.

The Cubs Torreyes are strong up in the middle throughout the minors and at the big league level I don't have a problem losing him if it's nets us one of the remaining top stars available. Still trying to understand why we gave the Dodgers pool money in that deal?

I'm guessing they saved ~$5m and have the right to spend an extra ~$1m at this point.

(didn't realize you were already doing the net change in pool)

I got $999,100 in bonus money.

$273,200 + $150,900 (Baltimore 3 & 4) + $468,400 + $316,300 (Houston 2 & 3) - $209,700 (Cubs 4 to LA).

I wonder if the Cubs get a 5% overage on acquired pools too.

Just to play devil's advocate, as much as I like Torreyes, it's hard to be too enthused over a 2B prospect whose one plus tool is his hit tool, and then he hits .262 over 800+ PAs at A+ and AA.

I wasn't happy with the Feldman return. Have no idea why we didn't just cut Marmol instead of giving up a small IFA piece. But I HATE giving up Torreyes for a relatively small amount of IFA space. Hell, even after these moves I'm not sure we have enough IFA money left to get Jimenez and Moreno without still paying the damn penalty next year. The only potential bright spot I see is it opens 2B up for Alcantara and SS for Baez at Tennessee. But they could have figured that out without dealing Torreyes. [expletive].

If slot money is really this valuable, we should be selling ours, not trying to buy more of it.

is it valuable? It seems the Cubs are the ones spending the most on it. If they were out of the market it may plummet in value.
