Obama didn't kill bin laden, he hid him for a while and then made him manager of his cross-town rival!!

Good enough for me.

OK so take it with a grain of salt, but...

DON'T FREAK OUT/OVERREACT: Cubs FO has approached the Rays about Joe Maddon- they were NOT completely dismissed as others have been in the past. >5% chance this goes down however the Rays and Maddon both seem more open than ever before...

Greater than 5% chance? Like 100%, I'm guessing. Done deal.

What kind of compensation would the Rays demand in return for Maddon?

A lot of it.

Right. Maddon is great, but given how Friedman generally operates, I'm not sure I want anything to do with him until his contract is up.

Honestly, is Maddon(best out there) going to get you more than a win or two versus other competent guys? Sure, he may get you 5(pulling it out of my ass) more than Dusty, but it's not worth it to me to give up a ton for him. I mentioned somewhere that maybe I'd give up Vogelbach. But I'm not even sure I'd do that and my guess is they'd want more.

trade Theo for Maddon straight up, then Theo trades himself and David Price back to Chicago for Jackson and Vitters.

Depends if you think he has player development pixie dust.

Starlin Castro for Maddon

I can't tell if you're serious and that [expletive] sucks.

The only precedent I can think of for manager trades is Randy Winn for Sweet Lou.

Farrell and Guillen

But none of these involved the best manager in the game and Andrew Friedman.

Yep. If he's really that guy, which with the way many of the Rays young guys have developed, I have no reason to think he's not, he'd be well worth giving up something of value to get.

more on maddon- hearing the intent is to gage what could possibly be brought back in compensation, likely nothing more. Direct quote: 'tampa thinks the cubs, more directly their ownership, may overpay in comp[pensation] to get a big name, fan base energizer with the best pr of any manager in the game- especially after girardi left their di*%s in their hands'

basically, it's what any great organization would do: 'sure, you can have him- at our price'... Unlike the bogus theo comp talk, legit top five guy would be required, which if it were to happen you can rest assured the ricketts drove the deal which would open a whole new can of worms in this crazy little drama...

Pretty much what I figured if there was any truth to the Rays listening.

If this is ownership talking I hope Theo is just saying, "see, it would not be worth it."

For a guy who doesn't really care who we get because I don't care much about a manager, I wasn't even paying close attention to this search.

But now I have to, because we damn well better not give up a top prospect for a flipping manager unless he's a player-manager.

It's not going to happen.

That said, Maddon MIGHT be worth giving up something of value for, but definitely not a legitimate prospect.
