The hiring of manager Rick Renteria at the major league level has had a ripple affect on personnel in the Cubs’ scouting and player development side.

 

Renteria added Brandon Hyde, previously Chicago’s farm director, as his bench coach. The Cubs announced Jaron Madison would slide from scouting director to farm director, Hyde’s old post. Madison had held the scouting director post for the Cubs for the 2013 draft after previously serving in that post with the Padres for three years.

 

The Cubs’ new scouting director, Matt Dorey, will be in that post for the first time. Dorey played third base at Portland State’s now defunct program, where he was a teammate of Washington State head coach Donnie Marbut, and has been both a college coach at the junior college level (Mount Hood, Ore.) and four-year level (Washington State), as well as coaching in the Alaska and West Coast summer collegiate leagues. He is listed on the West Coast League website as a member of its board of directors.

 

After serving the Red Sox for four years as an area scout in Texas and Louisiana, most recently Dorey worked for the Cubs as one of their national crosscheckers. As area scout with Boston, he is listed as the signing scout for prospects such as Anthony Ranaudo and Gerin Cecchini.
