The problem with that is we aren't sure we had the money to spend this past offseason to do more than we did. Sounds ridiculous, but it coukd have been an either/or situation between adding one solid bat or pitcher.

That's possible, though there were a lot of rumors that we were after both Anibal and Jackson and it wasn't an either/or. Either way, Upton didn't have to be one of the mid-tier guys we signed (though he would have been a perfect fit), he was just an example that came to the top of my head.

Two years ago was the much more egregious (too harsh a word, probably) example. Passing on/not getting guys like Chen and Cespedes really hurt, I think.

its not looking good for 2014 right now. We need major changes to be anywhere close to .500 next year. i will be shocked if this team doesnt lose a hundred games this year, in spite of a what appears to be a pretty solid rotation. I dont see the defense getting all that much better. We are still going to see mental errors with a core of young players. the bullpen has 6 or 7 blown saves already. Maybe its bad luck but maybe not. Weve got a strange mix of washed up relievers(camp gregg loe marmol) and young or inexperienced ones (bowden, rondon). Both likely to be very inconsistent. On offense, we have one of the lowest team obps and runs scored. Rizzo has been brutal outside of the tape measure shots. leftys kill us. Im pretty sure we are going to struggle to score runs all year.

i'd be pretty surprised if the team isn't expected to be around .500 next year. i think people are getting a little too caught up in the sss of games this season, considering most thought this was a 75-80 win team less than a month ago

As far as I'm concerned, it has been a pretty good week both on and off the field for the Cubs, so yeah, I agree. =D>

Not sure how that link is related, though.

If you like splitting a home series with the Second worst team in the NL (Outside of the Cubs) and empty threats from our cash strapped owner then i guess it has been an awesome week.

Congrats to the Ricketts Family. :clapping:

I can't wait for the $75 million payroll next season as we punt yet another season.

Weird ranking system. Something nebulous and wishy-washy like "fan relations" is valued at nearly 10 times a more solid measure such as championships.

I don't know about you, but win me a couple titles and you can have as crappy a website as you want.

Isn't the ranking system based on fan surveys?

I guess. I'm just not getting the value of this thing. It says it combines fan perspectives with solid objective measures but then seems to value the perspectives thing higher than the objectives.

I'd do the opposite, or at least a more even distribution.

Oh well, I'm probably missing something :)

It's run by ESPN. Don't expect logic.

The Rickets bought the house but dad ain't giving them money to furnish it. To their defense though, I haven't seen a team win a world series without a solid farm system filling the voids. The Tribune.Macfale.Hendry era never established a core feeder system ( especially starting pitching ) to ever sustain this team. Unfortunately the other teams in the division weren't run as incompetently as the imploding Tribune Co did in the last 10 years of their ownership.

I'm digging Theo & Jo's mojo though, I hope Crane Kenny doesn't drive them to quit. How Tribune hack Kenny wad allowed to stay on will cost the Rickets in the future.
