  1. The one concern I have with the cubs building a new network is the total divorce from wide access WGN's broadcast platform. It's why they have a national standing to this date, its why the Blackhawks are using WGN to establish a national identity. I'd hate for the cubs to mistakenly completely walk away from that marketing model.
  2. How bout that Marla Collins, boy oh boy.
  3. Big Z. Next cubs hitting coach.
  4. The Rickets bought the house but dad ain't giving them money to furnish it. To their defense though, I haven't seen a team win a world series without a solid farm system filling the voids. The Tribune.Macfale.Hendry era never established a core feeder system ( especially starting pitching ) to ever sustain this team. Unfortunately the other teams in the division weren't run as incompetently as the imploding Tribune Co did in the last 10 years of their ownership. I'm digging Theo & Jo's mojo though, I hope Crane Kenny doesn't drive them to quit. How Tribune hack Kenny wad allowed to stay on will cost the Rickets in the future.
  5. " go talk to the pitching coach "
  6. Ryan Thereto cant hit a fast ball
  7. So with Dale gone, is the philosophy of wanting their hitters to generate more power by hitting to their pull fields being scrapped ? Its why Dale reworked Barney's approach, why he gave up on Lahair, why Castro lost his timing... have Jed or Theo spoke to this since the firing?
  8. Bryant is promising, but is he destined with Boris as his agent to head to free agency and decline all contract extensions and thus be traded early in his cub career ?

  10. ^ Totally agree ! What's with the homophobic dancing video implant in his post? He's screaming for ' look at me ' attention. He's got to be a Sox fan. As long as its OK to call people weirdos.
  11. Like I said, time will tell, how the Cubs feel about their CSN " situation" . you must be a Sox fan the way you defend Reinsdorf all the time. Haha. Might explain how you joined this blog right after the Sox won the World Series in Oct 05. Lol
  12. The cubs CSN stake is no more than a revenue sharing agreement that Im sure dissolves once a team departs. I'd be shocked if a departing team is allowed to keep ( or would even want to keep ) an ownership stake. Winning naturally drives team identity, but I was discussing this in terms of the thread " Cubs TV Deal Stuff "
  13. Thicker skin ? Just calling it how I see it. Everyone has their own perception. Time will tell how happy the Team is with the CSN set up. I'm betting not very and will get out as soon as contractually able to. Teams want their broadcasting operations to be mechanisms to help build brand identity and loyalty, not foster antagonistic sniping from the sidelines.
  14. ^ I'm not referring to the opinion shows like Sports Talk Live, I'm talking about the straight reporting recap show like Sports Central. Again there is a difference between critical analysis ( which I accept and enjoy ) and dismissive mocking derogatory wise cracks. I've noticed it in my critical perception that the network has an obvious bias to promote it's largest owner's teams and to minimize and degrade the coverage off the team that is in direct competition with his team. To think that there isn't benefit to the White Sox if they can chase away interest in the Cubs by subtly mocking the team in CSN's coverage is blind ambivalence. It's the same complaint the Sox had about Tribune coverage ( or lack of ) of the Sox when Tribune owned 100 % of the Cubs. I'm not blind to the competitive forces the two teams use in battling for market share ( hearts and minds ) in Chicago. The sooner they get away from CSN the better. :yahoo:
  15. Garfein is a bit of a homer for the Sox, but those other guys are just typical snarky sports talk types. The Cubs suck, therefore the tone about the Cubs is going to lean toward mocking. If the Cubs didn't suck, they wouldn't be mocked for sucking. "Typical snarky sports talk types" it's fine if they were on WSCR, but CSN project themselves as sports news. Derogatory coverage only belies their biases. REINSDORF COMPANY TOWN = CSN The sooner the Cubs cut ties with CSN the better. No need to indirectly subsidize a sports network that is undermining your product with mocking ( disguised as objective ) coverage.
  16. I don't mind critical analysis by so called " Professional Sports Anchors " but dismissive mocking tone torwards the Cubs is commonplace, while no such tone is used in covering the team whose owner controls 50 % of the station these anchors are employed by. Hollinsworth is very critical at times but doesn't mock, Pat Boyle, Garfein, Schenowski all use mocking dismissive tones when giving cubs highlights on the recap shows.
  17. Reinsdorf is very adept at spending State money, the only money he put up ( besides paying the water bill every month) is allowing the naming right's proceeds to back the renovation bonds . The Tribune Co should have demanded to be part of any public funding scheme at the time this was hatched. Now they (cubs) are on the outside looking in at Reinsdorf eating at the State public trough. At some point the hotel tax that backs the isfa should be reapportioned based on the percentage that each team generates hotel stays in the taxing district. Meaning the cubs should get at least 25% of those taxes to back facility upgrades in an around Wrigley. Ricketts should be sounding a constant drum beat about correcting this missallocation of hotel taxes even though his current projects are going forward using other funding mechanisms.
  18. I ultimately see the Cubs and Hawks forming their own sports network down the line. Currently the Cubs and Sox overlap frequently and the bulls and Hawks overlap often in their schedules. Its seems like a logical split to increase brand identity between the teams and their network. It also would get the Cubs away from the mocking tone of the Rainstorm picked anchors that host most of the CSN programming.
  19. I always thought US Cell field would be abandoned after 25 years or so. The stadium was the last of the walled/fenced in symmetrical parks built before Camden Yards redefined park construction towards retro looking fields. The cell bridged the gap with their upper deck and seat color modifications but it still doesn't integrate with the surrounding area and thus doesn't spur any development outside the park unless its subsidized. The fact that the State of Illinois shut down the Cubs request for subsidies seems to doom any new park for the white Sox for years to come.
