Well, guess I don't have to take Monday off now.

Or maybe I still should.

That's my plan.

I can probably handle working the next day. Maybe I should just take a different day off and go to the 2nd game too.

I don't know if anyone mentioned this yet but Wada pitched 1.2 innings for the "MLB All-Stars" last night in Japan and gave up a HR.

Think of the storylines:

-Maddon's first game as Cub

-Baez, Soler, Alcantara with their first opening day

-Potential for multiple bigger named FAs making debut

-Debut of rebuilt bleachers and jumbotron at Wrigley

-Welcome back to relevancy Cubs

-How many Cardinals will drive drunk to the game

-Passing of the torch in NL Central supremacy

This shouldn't go unnoticed. Cracked me up.

Cubs Twitter account just said we will host St. Louis for opening night baseball on Sunday 4/5, 8 pm on ESPN2.

That is awesome. Has the Cubs home opener ever been a night game?

The #Cubs season opener April 5 will mark 1st ever Opening Night in Wrigley Field history

According to Jesse Rogers, Baseball Tonight will also be broadcasting live from Wrigley on Opening Night.

I'm already trying to figure out how we can wrap up our family obligations on Easter Sunday in time to get to the game.

Is this the place where we start a petition to have the "Cardinals in Hell (2014 update)" picture put on the new jumbotron between innings for the first game?

Entire first home series is being adjusted to follow with the new opening night:

The game vs. the St. Louis Cardinals is scheduled to start at 7:05 p.m. and will air on ESPN2.

This will mark the first Opening Night in Wrigley Field history.

Due to this shift, the Cubs-Cardinals opening series will be adjusted as follows:

• Sunday, April 5: 7:05 p.m. vs. St. Louis Cardinals

• Monday, April 6: OFF DAY

• Tuesday, April 7: 7:05 p.m. vs. St. Louis Cardinals

I hate it too, but I'm willing to pay that price for the Sunday night opener.

At least the first off day will come while everyone else is having their opening day, but yeah, that sucks.

http://www.cbssports.com/mlb/eye-on-baseball/24807690/unleaderboarding-lots-of-great-players-struggle-at-age-21

The 21-year-old Baez debuted last season in the bigs and flashed his immense power, but he also showed his immense swing-and-miss ability. It's a problem, for sure, but in perusing the comments sections on this site and others in addition to constantly being on the lookout on Twitter (hey, a guy's gotta get his inspiration from somewhere, right?), I have seen far too much talk of Baez being a bust.

Lunacy.

That's not to say that Baez can't possibly end up being a bust (he very well could) or that there's no shot his contact issues haunt him throughout his career (they very well could). I'm talking about people saying he's already a bust.

So with that in mind, let's take a look at just how short-sighted such sentiment is. Here are some All-Star-caliber players and how poorly they fared when they were 21 at the big-league level -- while also lumping in how far away from the majors some others were.

Baez hit .169/.227/.324 with six doubles and nine homers in 229 plate appearances, for the sake of comparison. Remember, all of the following statements are regarding the players' age-21 seasons.

•Anthony Rizzo hit .141/.281/.242 with one homer in 153 PA.

•Adam Jones hit .246 with 21 strikeouts in 65 at-bats.

•Dustin Pedroia hit .255 ... in Triple-A. Also in Triple-A, Robinson Cano hit .259.

•Alex Gordon was a stud ... for the University of Nebraska. Anthony Rendon, too, for Rice University. Chase Utley was at UCLA. And on and on we could go.

•Josh Donaldson was a catcher in Rookie ball. Sonny Gray made five starts in Double-A. Jeff Samardzija was a wideout for Notre Dame.

•Matt Holliday hit .275 with 11 homers ... in High-A. Adam Wainwright was in Double-A in the Braves' system.

•Andrew McCutchen had a pretty good all-around season for Triple-A Indianapolis.

•Aramis Ramirez hit .179/.254/.250 in 64 plate appearances. Carlos Gomez hit .232/.288/.304 in 139. Ryan Braun destroying pitching to the tune of .352/.393/.632, though that was between Rookie Ball and Class A.

•Joey Votto spent the entire season in High-A.

•In 39 games at Triple-A, Adrian Gonzalez hit .216/.286/.288. Matt Kemp was in the bigs, where he struck out 53 times in 154 at-bats.

•Troy Tulowitzki hit .240/.318/.292 in 108 PA. Carlos Gonzalez spent most of the year in Double-A.

•Paul Goldschmidt was a stud, though it was in Rookie Ball.

Oh yeah, how about a few Hall of Famers?

Andre Dawson hit .235 with no homers in 92 plate appearances. Brooks Robinson -- in his fourth year in the bigs, mind you -- hit .239/.286/.359. Reggie Jackson hit .178 with 46 strikeouts in 118 at-bats.

So maybe pump the brakes on that "bust" talk, eh?

Now, please realize I'm not comparing Baez to any of the above players as far as ability. To reiterate a statement from above, I'm not saying Baez won't be a bust. He could be. It's obviously possible.

What I am saying is that it's laughable to suggest he's already a bust. Consider this a public service announcement to hold such asinine proclamations in abeyance, pending the next several seasons. He's 21 freaking years old.

You posted that for us to mock, right? It's terrible.

No, beyond the fact that the incredibly obvious point that it makes needs to be made, it's really not.

Nobody is saying Baez might be a bust because of his slash line. We are saying he might be a bust because he can't stop missing when he swings.

It's not about either of those things. And it's not about people saying he MIGHT be a bust. Who is "We?" Who referenced the "we" that you are bringing up? The people saying he's already a bust do exist. Saying he might be a bust is not saying anything. It's obvious.

It's the fact that labeling someone a bust who is extraordinarily talented enough to reach the big leagues at age 21 on merit is incredibly dumb. The fact that he struggled badly in the big leagues at age 21 is closer to being a huge point in his favor than it is an indication that he's a bust.
