It's going to be really annoying if we miss the wild card by a few games next year so we can have Bryant and Javy under control in 2021

they really only need to hold them back for, what, like 2 weeks?

if they actually even entertained the thought (assuming no further crashing and burning by both in iowa) of holding them past super 2, i'd be legit pissed.

I can't see them holding that happening

i think we all should really just be hoping javy deserves to be promoted by then.

i agree. i kind of want to blindly take solace in his slash line trending upwards at least.

he is still very young for the PCL, so there's that.

I know that half these guys are going to get hurt or suddenly lose all semblance of strikes, and whichever ones we put in high-leverage situations will magically have terrible results despite awesome peripherals.

But today I'm imagining a 2015 bullpen that includes Rondon, Strop, Ramirez, Vizcaino, Rivero, Rosscup, Grimm, and it is exciting.

Presumably, Hammel and Samardzija would be traded for other baseball players. Maybe even baseball players that pitch.

I 'm sure they'll hope to get arms but they probably won't be MLB ready (or near ready) arms the caliber if those two. If a team has a TOR type guy who will be ready early in 2015, they likely wouldn't trade for these guys.

Obviously you never know, and lots of teams feeling they are in the race can change the market for us but I think we are more likely to get a MLB ready bat (like Meyers/Shields) or a high end pitcher ready in 2016 or later. I just don't see a deal that would land us mound help for 2015.

Screw that, I'm still imagining Ramirez in the rotation.

A Stroman for Shark trade could land us with the better pitcher as soon as next year. Toronto may do it, though, because they need a guy ready to be a workhorse right now.

Given the fact that Ramirez has actually had shoulder issues while Vizcaino just had elbow problems (IIRC), if you want to be optimistic about a guy being able to start, wouldn't it make more sense to go with Law's old "his elbow was broken but now it's fixed after TJS" theory and imagine Vizcaino as a starter?

That's not to say that it's true or that he won't have further issues, but it would seem to be more worthy of optimism.

Is this like when Rubby De La Rosa would step right immediately step into Josh Becketts slot?

No, different.

At this point, I'd try stretching them both out next year, tbh. I rank Ramirez ahead because he's been amazing in the same role in the majors instead of AA.

Kinda, he had barely pitched post-TJS when he was sent as a PTBNL.

Wouldn't it make more sense to look at a 1 year rental rather and keep what may be a better pitcher who sounds like he could be there next season?

A lot depends on who is available, and whether they feel Shark is a TOR guy or MOR innings eater.

I just think that if they have a guy who will be good enough to replace Shark in our rotation next season, why wouldn't they just bring him up to fill that need?

I have no doubt we can land a TOR guy as good or better than Shark with this deal, I'm just doubting that it would be anyone who can perform like Shark in 2015.

Which is the basis of the argument. We will still need to find ML pitchers to replace Samardzija and Hammel for 2015. The good thing is they have done pretty well at finding them.

no it's like when staff ace Jake Arrieta stepped right immediately step(?) into Scott Feldmans slot

I know, I know - service time....but can't we just bring Alcantara up to play 2B? Barney is so very bad. I'd even be happier with Valaika at this point. He can't be worse.

Instead of disliking Dempster for his awful impersonations and declining a trade for Delgado, I only have to dislike him for the former.

I would rather have Vizcaino over Delgado, so thank you...

But he went to the minors first

I was just thinking about this. I think with Vizcaino and Rivero hopefully graduating to the pen next year that Ramirez can/should be moved back to starting. Sure can't expect 180-200 innings out of him, but he has gone 140 before in his career and has had minor league success in a starting role, without much difference in his K rate.
