There goes Poncedeleon. He should have signed with us last year.

He wanted to. He failed the physical.

Oh yeah - forgot that was him.

In fact, he did sign before failing the physical.

As a UVA fan, I'm fairly ecstatic with the draft so far. Downes falling to the 6th probably leaves a slim chance that he may return, and unlike last year, there wasn't a prep player for the upcoming freshman class picked in the top 10 rounds (Nicely going to Houston in the 10th last year). Doesn't mean that guys won't sign, but UVA should get a pretty solid class on campus to replace the departing juniors/seniors, and more importantly, get some key bats to fill in.

Pierce Johnson:

@Flowbro33: Really? Drafting manziel instead of some kid who actually wants to play pro ball?

Hasn't been mentioned here, but the longer the time is between when Aiken took his physical and when the signing is announced......The more speculation grows Aiken failed his physical. If so, the Astros going back to back with him and Appel looks disastrous.

Don't forget Correa relative to Buxton.

*ducks*

And a double jackpot for us.

That one is fine. I think Correa will be a stud. I didn't know how I felt about the whole position player at the top strategy but understand it quite well now.

If he doesn't sign, does he become a FA or can he go to college? How does that work?

I'm not 100% positive, but since he doesn't truly sign a contract, he can go to college. Would really suck for him since then it's multiple years til he can get that payday.

That's what I was thinking, but wasn't sure.

He could go the JUCO route and be eligible again next year. I'm not sure of the transfer rules in college baseball, but I think he can leave/not enroll at UCLA, go directly to a JUCO/CC and be eligible again the following year.

Not positive, but even with a failed physical, I think the Astros are required to offer him 40% of slot regardless. Their value was a tad over 7.9 mill, if there were an injury of any sort, it'd be awfully tough for Aiken to turn down 3.5 mill when all is said and done.
