So, Caps fans are starting to get kinda mouthy all of a sudden. They're talking Ovie for MVP too.

At least they've been on enough of a roll to legitimately belong in the playoffs now.

That's true but they're also about 2 losses away from 11th place

Saw that today. Washington Post has had some articles about that stuff. Funny.

What a player does at the end of the season seems to carry more weight than the body of work. It also depends on how you define most valuable. Take Crosby off the Pens and they're still a good team. same thing with Kane. The CAps really don't have much else besides Ovie. Best player over the course of the season has been Kane. It's not Crosby's fault that he got hurt but injuries IMO should count for post season awards. It may sound harsh but being able to stay healthy should count for something.

At first glance this is too many. But it will draw attention. I don't necessarily mind a series of games in the dog days of the season.

How the hell are they going to play a game in Dodger Stadium?

Same way they play games in climate controlled environments every night in the NHL?

They once played an outdoor preseason game in a parking lot in Las Vegas when it was 85 degrees out.

Fans will pay for tickets, people will watch, it will grow the sport. Booooooo that.

I only care about how it effects me, and to me it makes it less cool.

Didn't they have to delay the game in Philly a couple years back?

edit, eh that was temperature and rain related, not going to get much rain in LA presumably

What they should do is set up an opening night outdoor game. Make opening night a spectacle like the NFL and MLB do. I always feel like the hockey season opens and nobody is really paying attention. Maybe that's because the playoffs just ended a few weeks earlier. But whatever.

My point is, have 3-4 games. Opening night, New Years, I like the Super Bowl week idea, and then during hockey weekends in the US and Canada. I guess that's 5.

And here's another thing. It's a TV spectacle, but everyone says the sightlines for fans in the arenas suck. They should look at playing them in smaller outdoor venues like MLS arenas. Maybe that negates so much revenue it wouldn't be worth it though.

Anyways, I think this is a terrible idea to flood the market with outdoor hockey games.

It's hardly a flood.

But they do run the risk of ruining the novelty of the event. It's like when Elmo wished it was Christmas every day and then nobody cared about Christmas anymore and it ruined it.

I like your ideas. One issue with opening night is that in a normal year that is October, the start of baseball playoffs, middle of NFL and College seasons. You won't be able to get access to any of the stadiums they have been wanting to use. MLS arenas could work, but the spectacle is playing in Wrigley Field, Yankee Stadium, Michigan Stadium, etc. Nobody knows what Red Bull Arena is. You could probably use something like RFK. Also, if you wanted to do it NFL style, with last year's Cup winner opening the following season, the lag time may not be long enough to do it.

They would have to get creative with stadiums to make opening night work.

It's a risk. But most teams still aren't involved and/or want to get involved. There's only a handful of teams playing. And it's in the dead time of the sports calender. There are no other options.

They'll just borrow the magical climate machines that Qatar invented for World Cup 2022. VOILA: instant winter.
