So, Iginla is a healthy scratch tonight and a deal is imminent. Wisdom is it will be Boston.

It makes sense, given what the Pens have been doing so far.

The Pens are serious about winning I guess. They are going to be in Cap hell the next couple of years with a lot of quality players coming available.

They shouldn't be in cap hell as much as they will just be looking for a new wave of players. They aren't signing Iginla, are they? They project to have 10.6m in space for next year and 39.7m the following. Compared to the Blackhawks having 5.2m and 23.0m, or Boston with 6 and 17.

Morrow, Iginla, Dupuis, Cooke and Murray UFA this season.... Malkin, Kunitz, Orpick and LeTang next. Plus Kennedy is a RFA is offseason(tough year to have a bad year, but will still have some suitors.) They will lose several other players besides Iginla

Right, they have guys leaving through free agency but I look at cap hell as a situation where you're already up against the cap with signed deals and have to get rid of them. They'll still have a ton of money to spend when some of those guys do leave.

All the pre-deadline moves sort of killed a lot of the anticipation for today, but things have heated up late here.

Pominville to MN

Mason to PHI (hahahaha)

Bishop to TB (wanted him for Hawks)

And most shockingly, Gaborik to Columbus.

Luongo was pulled off the ice during Canucks practice. 3 minutes til the deadline..

Edit: But it was towards the end of practice...not sure if that's normal or not.

And Luongo remains in Vancouver. Amazing, though I guess it shouldn't be with that stupid contract.

Apparently they called him into the office to say he will not be traded. So pulling him of the ice was a nice little fan torment kinda thing.

He's continuing to get high marks for the way he is handling the whole situation.

“My contract sucks,” says Roberto Luongo, who has decided to waive his no-honesty clause. #TradeCentre

I wouldnt have minded if the Wings made a move to add a top 6 forward. I also wouldnt have minded if they were sellers. It just makes no fricking sense to stand pat

They probably find more value in keeping their playoff streak alive than the players that they could get if they were sellers. I think a lot of teams are in the same position and are willing to wait to see what talent shakes loose this summer.

Plus Columbus unloaded Steve Mason on Philly. Quite a trade deadline

I suppose there are worse places for Mason to go. Off hand I can't think of any though.

Gaborik with a goal and an assist in his CBJ debut. Jackets just 1 point behind St. Louis for the 8 seed, with a game against the Blues tomorrow night

So, Caps fans are starting to get kinda mouthy all of a sudden. They're talking Ovie for MVP too.

At least they've been on enough of a roll to legitimately belong in the playoffs now.
