Well, I'm looking forward to it. Bummer there will be no NY/NJ/PHI games for me to try and attend, but, oh well.

http://deadspin.com/5976808/nbcs-nhl-promo-tries-to-rewrite-last-seasons-playoff-results?post=56322333

The Flyers beat the Penguins in the first round of the playoffs last year, yet it wasn't as simple as that. The teams combined for 56 goals, hundreds of penalty minutes, and multiple suspensions. It was simultaneously the ugliest and most entertaining playoff series in recent member. But the Flyers did win it.

So why is NBC, in this promo for an opening day rematch, teasing that "the Flyers have their sights set on revenge for last season's playoff loss to Pitt?"

But hey, hockey starts in two days! Aren't we all excited?

NHL Center Ice free preview from 1/19 through 1/31 and it's only $50 for the whole season (though some say it should be free).

http://www.broadcastingcable.com/article/491347-NHL_Slaps_50_Charge_On_Center_Ice_PPV_Package.php

Pro-rating the number of games being played, it would regularly be $98. So I think $50 is fair.

I hardly think it's "fair" to simply cut it in half. They ruined the season.

I cancelled mine.

Not just the fairness issue, from a business decision level, if they give it away it might help get casual fans back into the flow quicker. I know I'm not going to pay the $50, but if it were free I would watch more Blackhawks games. As is I'll just watch whatevers on NBC / national.

They hardly ruined the season. I'll grant that I was going to flock back no matter what, but I see a lot of excitement around the league.

I see very, very, very little excitement. Only the die-hards are excited. The Blackhawks are easily #3 in my Cubs/Bears/Blackhawks fandom, and my excitement level is quite low.

If you're in Jersey, then yes, you're probably not seeing much. Teams across the league are drawing thousands to open practices and scrimmages. Tickets are selling well. This has been a blip.

Well, I'm currently in Manhattan. The Rangers are a favorite and people don't really care.

It's pretty ridiculous to pretend this was just a blip.

If MSG is half empty for the opener, or hell, empty at all, I'll buy that.

Yeah, didn't the Blackhawks just have their most watched regular season game ever? LOL, I live in Manhattan too and people I know seem pretty excited. Idk what to tell you...

MSG drew great numbers for the NHL's return to the New York area. The Rangers-Bruins game scored a 2.88 rating on MSG last Saturday, the best numbers for a Rangers regular-season game since April 20, 1995... against the Hartford Whalers. It was the Rangers' second-highest rated season opener ever behind 1995, also a shortened season and one that took place after they'd won the Stanley Cup. In addition, the Islanders-Devils game on MSG Plus (which carried the Isles version of the telecast) drew a 1.00 rating, the second-best rating for an Isles game since 1991, when MSG started tracking ratings. The only game to ever score higher was a game against the Rangers in 2002.

I didn't intend to carry on this argument, but Chicago, St. Louis and Pittsburgh, among others I'm sure, also reported record or near-record ratings.

And even the Ducks sold out their opener. Where the league will suffer, it was suffering before. Give Quebec the Panthers already...

Karlsson's achilles injury looks terrible. I really don't think Cooke did it on purpose, but I understand why people are suspicious of him.

I don't think he did it with the intention of severing his achilles, but there was really no reason to be lifting his skate in that way. I could see him going for a laceratin on Karlsson's calf to put him out of the game and the impact of the board just brought his skate down on the achilles.

When Karlsson put's weight on the leg and you see the incontinuity at his ankle, it makes me want to throw up.
