Source: OF prospect Eloy Jimenez & fam decide on #Cubs but another team was in mix & offered more $$. Expect announcement in next few days.

Nice. Of course I'll be waiting for a report to the contrary until it's official, but nice still.

It's on MLBtraderumors also. Great day. Hopefully one of these guys turns out to be a stud in the coming years. Good thing we built that new impressive facility in the Dominican. I'm sure that was a factor. Feels real good to have some brains in the scouting dept. and FO.

what a great day. now that we are finally on track for 2019, we can start trading off these worthless prospects who are going to be expensive when the real waves of talent start coming in.

Roni Torreyes was going to be too good, too soon, and had to be shipped out.

The Cubs have a glut of MI prospects, and Torreyes wasn't hitting. And you know that.

If the trade deadline is Christmas, today has been all 8 days of Chanukah. Lots of cool but small gifts.

Based on what I've read on Eloy Jimenez, he could turn out to be way more than a small gift. Still a lot of development to do though obviously.

Apparently, one of the reasons Eloy chose the Cubs despite it being for less money was that he wants to follow in Sammy's footsteps.

Oh boy. Hopefully he still believes it was Flintstones vitamins that made him great.

You're both wrong. He just wasn't going to fit into our window of competitiveness.

I would assume he can fit into most windows.

OK, I'll bite. What makes you think he is going to be such a star? The .260 average or 2 homeruns?

Hahahaha why are you engaging him. He just (sadly) thinks he's funny/smart/whatever when he jokes about the window being continually pushed back.

Those two home runs might be the difference between getting the No. 1 draft pick in 2018 or not. Can't risk it.

Deal is done, Cubs attempting to make one additional Slot cash deal- likely with Twins for slot three money... Hearing the organization is making a late push for a couple other 750K-1.2M signees that have waviered from original commitments...

BTW - Deal is done is referring to Eloy.

If they are still trying to secure additional slot money, that makes the Marmol trade even more perplexing. Why did they give slot money away for essentially nothing?

I really am having a hard time figuring out wtf that was all about.

I also found that really unexpected.

The only way that can make sense is if they wanted Guerrier. Guerrier was a really effective relief workhorse for many years in the AL, so I wonder if Theo kind of developed a respect for him and he still has hopes for Guerrier to be or to become again a safe strike-throwing reliever.

Perhaps the Cubs scouts think he's coming back, or can be effective again with what he's got now.

I assume that they want an experience strike-throwing type veteran. Camp was supposed to be that guy, they must think Guerrier might take that role.

Obviously giving away slot money to save $0.5M in payroll was not the motivation. The motivation must have been some desire to get Guerrier.

Why is it obvious that they didn't want to save actual money?

Also, how the hell does a 16 y/o get to be 6'4 and 200 lbs? That blows my mind.

That's like 2 16 year old CTs

Weight wise, that's probably a lot closer to truth than I'd like.

Why would you think the motivation would be to acquire a crappy reliever rather than a cheap owner saving more money?
