I was thinking the last cut would be waiting to see how Mannelly is and if he's good the extra longsnapper would go.

Mannelly practiced this week, but I'd guess they'll keep the extra to play on Thursday. Cuz why risk it?

The Chicago Bears made their way to the 75-man roster limit Tuesday by reaching an injury settlement with quarterback Matt Blanchard, according to a league source.

The second-year passer from Wisconsin-Whitewater fractured a knuckle on his left non-throwing hand in the second preseason game against the Chargers. The injury complicated a situation in which the Bears might have considered keeping him on the 53-man roster or working to move him to the practice squad after final cuts, but the team could not release an injured player without having to come to a settlement.

Because of the settlement, Blanchard will not be eligible to re-sign with the Bears until after Week 10. This also precludes him from joining the team’s practice squad. Blanchard will be free to sign with another organization after the length of the injury settlement has expired, so even if the Bears want him back down the road, that might be impossible. Blanchard was not on the field for the team's practice Tuesday at Halas Hall.

Blanchard cut.

Looking ahead to the 2014 draft, our needs as I see them are CB/DL/C/TE/WR

It will probably be time to look at RB, I would put that above TE.

Agreed. The first three are definitely the top needs.

I'm hoping Ford can emerge as a good backup option and you can usually find decent RB's late in the draft.

Which would still make it a precedent to a backup TE.

I LOVE JAY CUTLER. I don't mean love the way teenage girls mean it, "luv" in big bubble letters, baby-faced idol love. My love is singular, and it will never be outgrown. I don't mean love the way a craftsman might admire a perfect object. My love is not so mathematical. I don't mean love the way the hunter loves the lion or the sailor loves the sea. My love is fearless. I don't even mean love the way I love my children, because my children sometimes make it hard to love them, but I always love Jay Cutler.

My wife asked if I wrote this article. I did not, but I feel like I did, ya know?

Dan Bernstein was freaking out about something Marshall said in an interview today.

Something along the lines of Marshall being ready for the season and this having been a physical training camp. It came after a question about his dropped passes I believe.

The twitter quotes of his statements were a little alarming to me. Although that may just be chalked up to Marshall being Marshall.

Huh? Zaidman was the one who made the twitter posts. Bernstein was freaking out about something but then wondering if what he was freaking out to something from twitter?

Brandon Marshall says he feels rushed a little bit from a conditioning standpoint coming off hip surgery.

haha, Bernstein said that his Dr. told him that he's no longer allowed to watch Fendi Onabun try to catch the ball anymore.

no, because I wrote it, and have already claimed to.

It's so weird, this love I have for him, I can't explain it either. It's like, our next QB will never ever measure up, I won't be nearly as excited for Sundays to roll arounnd.

I guess I'm just enjoying the Jay Cutler ride while I can, imagining that he's the Neo to Aaron Rodgers's Agent Smith.

I think I'd love any Bears QB that likes to sling it around. I loved Rex almost as much as Cutler.

Rex was a false king, i have no use for usurpers whose hearts wilt up like tulips in the summer.

The only one I mean to bend my knee to is Jay of House Cutler, the First of his Name, King of the Andals and the First Men, Lord of the Seven Kingdoms, and Protector of the Realm.

A few post game notes I'd like to add was that I really liked the blitz packages that the defense dropped in to the playbook. I thought Fiammetta in the backfield helped create the big openings for Forte, or at least created a decoy element that kept the defense guessing. I think Frey played pretty well, and I also echo the sentiments that Cornelius Washington is a beast. The quickness of this defensive line is going to give teams fits if they hold the ball too long.

The quick slants and screens are really going to help keep the pressure off of the offensive line and Cutler is set up to have a really big year.

Trying to figure out how many receivers they end up going with. Marshall, Jeffery, E. Bennett, Wilson, Weems and Anderson all make the team or is one of Weems or Anderson cut? Weems is so good on special teams that Anderson is probably the weakest link.

I think there's a real possibility that Bennett's spot is in jeopardy.

I think they almost have to keep 6 WRs, since Bennett is just running today for the first time since his injury. Wilson is a lock. Too young, too much potential. Anderson was a lock early in camp, was having a great camp til he got hurt. I think he still makes it, may not be in the 3-wide in Week 1 like I expected 2 weeks ago. Weems is a good special teamer, and has added value of being an option in the slot. Aromashodu got a lot of time in the slot in Oakland, but he's gone. Wilson and Tolliver got some time with Marshall moved into the slot.

If you only keep 5 WRs and Bennett can't go the first couple weeks, you are leaving the team really short-handed at the position. I actually don't think the Bears have many qualms about Wilson out there as the #3 (moving Marshall inside) when they have to.

The Blanchard move kinda sucks. Hopefully, there is something in place to bring him back after Week 10. But the Bears need to develop a QB at some point. He would at least give them someone to look at before the next draft.

A little surprised they didn't put him on the PUP-IR, where he could come back after Week 6 or 8 or whatever it is.
