It seems like nobody (except Butters) hates this hire, but nobody is in love with it either. Just so much unfamiliarity.

I like that he's a really smart guy and that everyone has great things to say...but yea, beyond that, I know nothing about him. Been digging around to find as much as I can, though.

Aaron Kromer seems to be more of a run game specialist. Trestman coordinates the passing offense and Kromer coordinates the run game?

Someone on twitter said that the two worked together in Oakland from 01-03. Kromer is probably somebody that Trestman can work with and talk to about current NFL tendencies and such.

I'm liking this hire a lot more the more I hear and read.

I'm liking it less and less.

The west coast offense's time has passed. Trestman is going to struggle to get the respect of players and other coaches with his very poor resume.

Much like Lovie's first coaching staff with the Bears, that was filled with a bunch of college coaches, I am very concerned about having a GM with very little NFL experience hiring a coach with minimal NFL experience that has gone stale. What he did in the mid-90's is not going to fly in 2012. Trestman is going to have to spend months reteaching himself the league. He hasn't seen an NFL talent in practice in 8 years, and that was with a pathetic Dave Wanndstedt team in Miami.

I preferred Arians, but I like the hire in theory. Very interested to see who the DC will be. If Lovie gets one of the jobs he most certainly takes Marinelli with him.

I can understand your concern, but you have a bunch of assumptions and mischaracterizations in that post.

No, not really.

I'm pretty confident Trestman will be calling the plays so Kromer is mostly the OL coach I'm guessing. Still bring in some knowledge from Sean Payton is a positive. And I wonder is Carmichael endorsed Kromer also.

What kind of offense do the Packers run?

So we hired a guy that hasn't coached in the NFL for 10 years? I'm not impressed but I'm also not going to freak out. I don't expect this to work but I'll wait to see what happens on the field before I start calling for mass firings at Halas Hall like the meathead I am.

yeah, i'm hoping trestman's offense is closer to mccarthy's than norv turner's.

It sure as [expletive] isn't the mid-90's west coast that Trestman is used to.
