Since I'm bored and waiting right now ...

If the Rangers came calling for Castro, I'd start with Profar AND Olt. No way I would go any lower than that. I would not let Andrus be a centerpiece to a deal (that is, one of the top 2 pieces). I'd probably ask for Derek Holland as well (I really haven't thought that much about a possible Castro-Rangers trade, so shooting from the hip here), and probably another minor league piece or two (I really don't love the rest of their system as much as others). Short of it is, I'd want a boatload of young talent.

Hmm ... leaving aside the same division dynamic for a moment, with the Cardinals, a comparable trade package that I'd want would be something like Oscar Taveras, 2 from the Miller/Rosenthal/Martinez trio, and a 1 or 2 secondary pieces.

Basically, I'd want three prime prospects to make a deal, or 2 prime prospects and one young/young-ish major leaguer, and some secondary pieces. Castro's age, performance, upside, and deal should be able to net that.

If Texas offered Profar + Olt + Holland, I'd say yes without having to think too hard about it.

If they just offered Profar + Olt, I'd probably say no. Castro is what you're hoping Profar becomes. Olt isn't enough to balance the risk that he doesn't get there. The strikeout concerns with Olt are nearly at BJax levels.

So the point at which I'd do a deal with the Rangers falls somewhere in that range.

From MLBTR:

•The Twins and Red Sox might be in the best position to acquire Giancarlo Stanton this offseason if the Marlins make him available since both teams have the organizational depth to make a blockbuster deal. A few teams like the Rangers have inquired about Stanton and were consistently told he wasn’t available, but Miami would have to listen if someone offered a handful of top prospects. “The Red Sox might be in a better position than the Twins because the Twins have to rely on their top players to come up and man several positions,” said one baseball exec. “The Red Sox have veteran players so their need to keep their best guys isn’t as severe. So if they can trade them off for a young player like Stanton, they wouldn’t have to fear about thinning out as a result.”

The Pirates supposedly offered Taillon/Polanco/Sanchez/Black for him at the deadline and were turned down. A package from us would start with Javy and Almora, plus more. I wouldn't do it, too many injury concerns, plus I expect Javy in the majors by August of next year anyway.

If Stanton didn't seem so fragile, I would be willing to do Javy+almora or soler for him. But right now, no way. Plus, we've seemingly hitched our wagons to these four guys ... might as well ride it out at this point.

Baez + Almora is probably more value by themselves than that entire Pirates package.

In my offseason daydreams, I come up with something like Lake, Olt, Soler, and Almora for Stanton.

I'm probably being a stupid fanboy for saying it, but I'm beginning to wonder if Baez isn't our own version of Stanton, so I'd rather not trade for the older, more expensive version.

god, stanton's age 20 AA season was monstrous. if we had a guy putting up numbers like that, i probably wouldnt be able to contain myself. The good news comparison wise is that it was his second go through the league. It will be interesting to see what javy does next year, assuming he's in AA again. because, he's a year older than giancarlo was, but his first pass in AA has been better than Stanton's first run was.

Yeah, no way I'd do that. If they want Soler, Olt, Vogelbach then fine. But not Baez or Almora, both of these guys seem on track to have quality major league careers.

I didn't post that out of fear of it turning into a 3 page battle between us over prospects.

Would Miami want to pay Solar's contract?

Maybe not, but it's so long term that it's not really much of an obligation.

Anyone but Baez for me. Almora might not develop any power. I do worry about Stanton being a Glass Joe though.

Almora has the same concerns. I dont think Miami would even consider it, but if they would take almora+soler, you gotta do it. Stanton is already more than Soler ever will be and you can just sign Ellsbury or choo in the offseason and lock up CF for a while

Love the pitcher's reaction on the first one.

I want the Cubs to get Stanton in the worst way.
