this was my personal favorite

White Sox:

If you've made it this far, you've probably noticed that most fans have a tendency to overrate their own team's prospects. So here’s how you know the White Sox have a lousy farm system: even their own fans can’t construct a single scenario that would convince the Marlins to trade Stanton to Chicago for minor leaguers.

BUT many of their young prospects are actually contributing at the major league level. So if you say minor leaguers...tough to find a deal, but add in the young pitching and a young position player or two and they could easily make a deal that more readily tempt the marlins because they would get young, cheap major league players that would be under their control for several years rather than hoping an unproven prospect turns out.

Would you rather have 4 of your position player prospects starting in the majors(plus your 4th OF'er in Danks) along with being the ace of your staff(Sale), 2 other starters (santiago, quintana),a good set up man(jones) and a closer (reed) or have them in A/AA ball? Their farm may suck now, but they certainly have gotten much more help from theirs in the last few years...

Dave Cameron threw out a couple of packages he thought could get Stanton: STL-Craig, Taveras, Miller, Rosenthal, and Lynn. Tex- Profar, Olt, Harrison, Holland, and Martin. Sea- Seager, Saunders, Walker, Paxton, and Franklin. Sooooooo, if he's in the ballpark of what it'd take, I stay far, far, far away. Wow, that's a [expletive] ton.

I don't see anyone making this move this year simply because Miami can hold on for that type of huge deal. I would think as next year comes around or even the deadline this year, they may go for this best they are offered. It sure seems that those deals would take a huge chunk of any near future talent those teams have for a couple of years of control. I would think it would make more sense to wait for a lesser deal or free agency.

Texas may have the most immediate need but they are still right in the playoff hunt with their pitching alone. So for them to drop their drawers to match the angels off-season on paper probably isn't necessary right now.

Yeah, but we probably don't want to give up Baez *and* Vizcaino. One or the other, sure.

You wouldn't give up both of them for Stanton?!?

The Texas package is crazy steep, but Baez and Viz is definitely understandable.

wait, we probably don't want to give up 2 minor leaguers who may be years away from getting to the bigs, and "IF" they get there, may never be worth a crap for a proven young(23) major league slugger, who might hit 40+hrs a year at wrigley for the next 10 years.

Sorry sign me up to pencil in that name in right and #4 for the foreseeable future!

He's the type of bat that changes your entire order.

Is there anyone where who said that Baez + Viz would be too much, or is this a complete strawman?

I know the trade I complained about took Baez + Viz, then added Shark and Rizzo on top.

No one here. This is an expression of my ongoing annoyance with the general population of Cubs fans, many of whom I have seen make such statements. Not the rarified air of NSBB.

No, Kyle made a deadpan joke and people took it seriously.

I'd give up any 3 prospects the Marlins wanted.

Sorry, I took Kyle's saying "that's the joke" as saying it's a joke that everyone else had so much on the table and we were to give 2 prospects, not that he was talking about his statement of not wanting to give up both.

I think you're talking about my proposal, which was in response to somebody saying that the Cubs wanted to make an offer that would overwhelm the Marlins and try to force their hand. I can't think of another offer that would do that.

Just curious, what would you ask for if the Rangers or Cardinals wanted Castro?

Do you mean what do I think is fair value for him or what would I ask for to begin negotiations?
