2010: Sanchez QB rating 75.3, Jets D 6th in NFL, Jets 11-5.

2012: Sanchez QB rating 75.6, Jets D 26th in NFL, Jets 4-7.

Numbers coming into today. Now it's 71.4/22nd (in points)/5-7.

Who would have thunk that Darrelle Revis meant so much to them?

Does that help make up for things like this?

Buck up little tiger.

Lion.

Whatever.

...huh?

while on the topic- our secondary yesterday: Drayton Florence, Ricardo Silva, Don Carey, Jacob Lacey; it took a superhuman display from Suh to mostly keep Luck in check for 3-1/2 quarters

yeah, we could really use some better depth back there

Worn-out topic, but Gruden is busy gushing over the Redskins' offense right now.

It's the 4th quarter. They have 10 points.

I just really can't wait to move on from Gruden in the booth.

His schtick is so corny and played out. He makes me miss Jaws.

Of course, then the Skins score a TD. But still, it's just too much. Put him somewhere else, just not doing color on MNF.

as luck would have it, dew's kid's JV team actually needs a coach

Hm, this whole kid thing is a new one on me. Never noticed I had one before.

Even if I had one, I wouldn't want Gruden coaching him. He doesn't develop young talent well enough. I wouldn't settle for any less than Tony Dungy.

@Hub_Arkush of @ProFootballWkly just told @Boers_Bernstein that Jon Gruden and the #Raiders are in talks to bring him back to Oakland.

Haha. Mark Sanchez is getting pulled for.....Greg McIlroy!

It always makes me wonder what certain coaches and talent scouts see in NCAA prospects because I remember being nothing but unimpressed with McIlroy in college

Not that being a 3rd string guy bouncing around for a while counts for a lot, but I'd like someone that at least looked good/ at running an offense at SOME point

It's the "winner" tag. People have decided McElroy "just wins games" and so he gets a roster spot over QB who might actually be good.

Which "might actually be good" QB is missing out on a roster sport with the Jets?

I was just thinking about this the other day. There has to be some unseen or underappreciated variable out there that can help project QB prospects better. Maybe down the road somewhere, someone will find something that will more accurately evaluate the pro potential of QBs. Other than the can't missers like Peyton, Marino, Luck, etc the rest is a giant crapshoot.

ROFL So sounds like Titus Young is probably done in Detroit. Placed on IR and then this...

According to Anwar Richardson of MLive.com, Schwartz said Young will have knee surgery: “Unless he doesn’t show up for it.”

It's probably something along the lines of having the ability to quickly process a lot of information, and still come up with the right answer in spite of that short time frame.

Example: let's say you have 100 people who can get an A on a given test. How many of those A's turn to B's if you put a time constraint on the amount of time to answer each question. That might be an analogy for college versus pro defenses.

That's an interesting thought. It could explain how some QBs seem to have less physical tools than the top of the line QBs but churn out decent to good careers, and others are blessed with immense physical tools (Jeff George, Ryan Leaf, etc) but never figure it out and quickly becomes backups or are out of the league in a few years.

That's awesome. Makes me despise Schwartz a bit less.

From Deadspin...the 3 week career of Ryan Lindley:

Completed 50 of his 103 pass attempts, good for a 48.5 percent completion rate. The lowest completion percentage for a qualifying QB in the NFL this year is 54.7 percent, owned by the man that will be replacing Lindley, John Skelton.

Threw for a total of 448 yards, or 149 per game. His 4.35 yards per attempt was a yard and a half shorter than John Skelton's 5.91, which is once again the lowest among qualified QBs.

Did manage to pick up one sweet tackle... off of one of his six turnovers (five interceptions, one fumble). He probably should still work on his tackling, though: Three of his turnovers were returned for touchdowns

Those three touchdowns matched the total number of offensive touchdowns the Cardinals scored in the games Lindley started. He did not throw or run for any of them.

Compiled a 40.8 passer rating, which, if he qualified, would once again put him behind last-place John Skelton. If ESPN's QBR is more your thing, Lindley's score of 6.8 would be a full two-thirds lower than Skelton's 19.3, which is still the worst. Still using QBR, Lindley's starts ranked 337th, 372nd, and 379th out of 384 QB games this year.

@Hub_Arkush of @ProFootballWkly just told @Boers_Bernstein that Jon Gruden and the #Raiders are in talks to bring him back to Oakland.

Now this is a denial!!

"Members of the media: There are two people on this planet that have the ability to make talks happen between Jon Gruden and the Raiders, with regard to him allegedly taking over the football operations, and/or the position of head coach. Each of those individuals, owner Mark Davis and general manager Reggie McKenzie, wanted me to communicate that this rumor has no validity whatsoever. And for the record, I'm personally disgusted that Hub Arkush would spread such an untruth on the day our head coach, Dennis Allen, had to determine with his mom, his brother and sister, whether to take his dad off life support or wait and hope that he would regain consciousness. Dennis didn't have an opportunity to say goodbye to his dad, but he did have an opportunity to take a phone call regarding Hub's story."
