The most disturbing aspect would be him going along with this for the extra pub, but one thing I'm disgusted with is how ND is handling this and going back to Sullivan in '10 and ND's response to that, followed by the sexual assault case with Seeberg as well as the Freshman who remains unidentified, and now this.

It's a pattern of covering up their own asses at any cost even though they know he lied in some form.

It's ironic that once it became known to them that it was a hoax, they immediately start an investigation but Seeberg reports the rape and campus police does nothing until 5 days after she kills herself?

I've never come across a story so big that was still evolving like this. Usually when stories this big breaks, all the facts are known and it all comes out at once.

um sandy hook?

I can't believe that such a non-story has occupied every news agency's time all day

Yeah, weird story, but at the end of the day, who gives a [expletive]?

It's no Sandusky, but it's hardly a non-story.

Well, in one case, the player came directly to them and they reacted, which is understandable. In the other, do we know the athletic program had any immediate knowledge, or was it just reported to campus police and they did nothing? Or was it reported to both the campus police and the athletic department? I don't recall the details.

My limited understanding of the sexual assault case is that it was reported to campus police and they were the ones dragging their feet. Whether the athletic department was involved to some extent in that, as far as I know, was never made clear.

6 months after the incident & once it became an ESPN story, ND finally did conduct an internal hearing.

It should also be noted that ND's President (John Jenkins) refused to meet with Seeberg's family based on advice from ND's counsel, who also likely smeared her character in attempts to save ND's reputation.

Campus Police failed miserably and it was followed by another glaring failure by ND's administration once it was known by them. Regardless, if they knew 6 minutes or 6 months after it happened, they protected their image above anything else and are doing it again with their golden boy.

It's like 1/2% of the Sandusky story

I don't buy the gay angle- if she was a cover up for being gay he wouldn't have had her die of cancer. If he was gay and decided to go to ND, he could have blamed the no girls thing on either being Mormon or the sorry state of female ND students-which is reported fairly universally in my experience.

Isn't St. Mary's literally right across the street from Notre Dame? And Holy Cross is nearby too, right? Surely they have hotter chicks due to lower academic standards. And I tend to believe that he duped his parents in all this mess, too. They have no idea he's gay. They're pressing him to meet the "love of his life" so what does he do? He kills her off. No one to introduce to his parents and the grief over losing his girlfriend would prevent questions as to why no chicks are with him going forward until he's off to the NFL.
