I just got done reading the last 20 pages of this thread- wow.

 

I don't buy the gay angle- if she was a cover up for being gay he wouldn't have had her die of cancer. If he was gay and decided to go to ND, he could have blamed the no girls thing on either being Mormon or the sorry state of female ND students- which is reported fairly universally in my experience.

 

So the other options are that he was either duped by his friend who, for some reason, wanted revenge or he was trying to generate sympathy so he could win the Heisman.

 

I think the simplest explanation was that he was duped for a while but then made stuff up to cover up how dumb he was.

 

Either way, he did lie about what happened and used it to get attention and sympathy.
