Again, the first Twitter interaction between Te'o and the fake girl was October 10, 2011. People continue to propagate the "over three years" stuff although the only evidence that it lasted that long is that Te'o claimed to meet the girl in California in 2009, a fact we all now know to be false.

 

I agree with Clay Travis that it's entirely possible Te'o is gay and didn't want to deal with people asking why he didn't date.

He certainly lied to his parents about meeting her as his dad was quoted in the SB tribune about their meetings in Hawaii. I've asked here, b/c I honestly don't know, whether he lied to the media about meeting her. It's been reported that he gave his number to a woman at the Stanford game in '09 and that he believed that this girl was that same woman. I don't remember seeing Manti quoted saying that he met her in person after she contacted him in 2011. Have you seen that somewhere - a quote from him about meeting her?

The bit is omc, nuts, and others earlier claiming te'o never spoke to her and that he should have figured it out when she didn't speak to him. Even if you ignored the presser today, which is dumb, but even if you did, the story has always been about their long conversations at night and falling asleep on the phone and him calling her first thing in the morning, etc, etc.

 

Ignoring basic facts to draw these conclusions makes you look stupid. Doing so and calling me stupid makes you an ass.*

the only thing that makes me consider that there is a 0.5% chance of te'o telling some version of the truth is that you have to be a stone cold sociopath to double down on your real grandma actually dying by throwing in the story about your made up girlfriend dying.

 

all jokes aside, the only story that makes even the slightest bit of sense is that he made up the girlfriend story because he is gay and needed to explain why he wasn't knee deep in [expletive] 24 hours a day and the lie just spiraled out of control. because it would be INSANE for someone to spend literally HUNDREDS OF HOURS over 3 years JUST TO [expletive] WITH THIS GUY. and it would be perhaps slightly less insane for te'o just to make up the story for sympathy/PR/attention. the other possibility is that te'o is schizophrenic or something.

ND/Swarbrick said that Te'o was the victim not that he never lied about anything (e.g. faking a physical relationship with someone he only knew online).

 

I think Teo being duped is plausible although the connection to Tuiasosopo makes it unlikely IMO.
