I don't even think Rose gives a crap. Hes got his lifetime Adidas contract and a max deal. He'll care once he realizes these labels will follow him and linger.

Well that's just silly.

What do you want them to do? They have a player who is healthy enough to play but doesn't want to play. What can you expect a team to do in that situation?

Not let it out that team doctors cleared him to play. Defend his decision more aggressively. Say its partially a team decision.

That sort of "keep it under wraps" stuff is fine for short durations. But this isn't a story about a guy missing a practice. Everybody knows what's going on. There are reporters all over the story and have been for months.

There are two scenarios; he is healthy but doesn't want to play or, he had a serious setback. The only way to call off the dogs on the story is by saying he's suffered a setback but I don't think they want to do that.

I don't have any sort of attachment to Rose, but this is preposterous. Maybe he doesn't want to push a knee that was operated on 51 weeks ago just to lose in five games to the Heat?

He was cleared to play 10 weeks ago. Typical recovery time frame is 8-10 months.

And if he didn't want to push it, he shouldn't be going balls out at the Berto Center and kicking everyone's ass in 5v5 and 1v1.

Is it? He's not giving answers and for the most part has shied away from doing detailed Q&A. His teammates have been defending him staunchly yet he's done almost nothing to quell these sentiments.

It keeps dragging along with no end in sight.

What does "balls out" include? I think playing in pickup games varies wildly from ratcheting it up in the playoffs 40 minutes every other night, especially against defenses that are going to up the physicality. I think it's a lot more likely that while he could play, and probably do reasonably well, it's better for both sides to sit him rather than run him out there for a playoff run they know will end against Miami.

As others have stated, that's part of the recovery process. He needs to go from those pickup games into game action at some point. I think even if he got in 4-5 games this season it would help at least with the mental side of his recovery during the summer. And the mental aspect is all that remains. He's been fine for over 2 months and he's no more of a risk to re-injure his knee now than he will be in a month or 6 months or whenever.

I defended him around here probably 6-8 weeks ago but we're long past that point.

Then they should have had a press conference months ago saying "We're shutting Rose down indefinitely, to await a doctor's confirmation of LeBron's retirement."

Obviously you don't want him to play his first games in the playoffs, but he was cleared with what, 20 games left?

I think Rose is being an idiot, don't get me wrong. I just think it's hyperbolic to suggest he doesn't care. I think he thinks he's doing the right thing for himself and probably for the Bulls too.

Now I think he's wrong, but that doesn't mean he doesn't care.

Espn's Jon Greenberg had an exchange on Facebook talking about how Rose was seen partying at Lumen last night after the Bulls loss. An eyewitness said Rose and his crew looked like they had "just won the championship"

Lol

He could be playing 20 minutes a night and make a major difference.

In a perfect world, a player who is medically cleared to play but refuses to do so would be suspended without pay due to breach of contract.

Of course that would never happen to a star player in any league, so....

It took 5 whole minutes for someone to make a Rose comment after that.... I'm disappointed.

It doesn't need to be said. It's clear as day.

It's his teammates that deserve respect. Not Rose.

It doesn't need to be said, but just in case, that's about all you've said for 3+ pages of this thread.

it's the bulls thread and we're probably going to lose in the first round because rose doesn't want to play. it does need to be talked about. a year ago this kind of scenario rose has created would have been unthinkable. it's like derrick rose is the exact opposite of what we all thought.

Speaking on what could be the final day of the Chicago Bulls’ season, Derrick Rose said he’s unaware of outside criticism of his decision to sit out the season after May 2012 surgery to repair his torn left ACL and wouldn’t be bothered by it anyway because he’s listening to how his body feels.

“That’s my first time hearing about it,” Rose said Saturday of the critical fan contingent. “I barely turn on the TV. I’m with my son all day. So that’s about it.

“I’m feeling about the same, still being patient, still trying to take care of my body and just trying to enjoy this time and cheer on my teammates.”

Rose said there’s no benefit to announcing that he’s out for the season and said watching playoff games in street clothes has been difficult.

“It’s been hard,” he said. “But I’m able to get past it, knowing that my teammates are out there playing hard, giving the game everything they got. That’s all I can ask for.

“Who knows? It’s still in the air where I’m still trying to be positive and still trying to take care of my body.”

Rose said he hasn’t been pressured by the organization or teammates or coaches to play and is making the decision by himself. Asked about the perception that his inner circle of older brother Reggie Rose and agent B.J. Armstrong has influenced his decision, Rose acted incredulously.

“Who said that? If anything, it’s up to me,” Rose said. “My brother and them can’t tell me what to do with my body. They give me control. I’m in control of the whole process. It’s really all on me.”

Asked what the benefit of sitting the entire season is, Rose said: “Being healthy. Health-wise, if I do take the whole year off and don’t play anymore, I know I’m going to come back a better player. I guess my body will be healed more but who knows?

Rose said his body feels the same and he still is thinking rather than reacting when he plays.

“Still thinking. Still trying to take my time. Still the same old thing,” Rose said. “If anything changes, trust me, I’ll let you all know. It’s still the same.”

Rose was cleared for full-court scrimmaging on Feb. 18. The Bulls haven’t scrimmaged since March and rarely practice anymore, using walkthroughs and film sessions to review opponents.

“No one. I haven’t had any pressure anywhere,” Rose said. “You hear stuff. People say stuff. I have a lot of people text me, asking if I’m doing all right because I guess they’re paying attention to what’s going on in social media.

Derrick Rose is an amazingly naive idiot or has the absolute worst management team in the history of PR

Posted

My only issue with the whole Rose thing is that if he's not going to play, stop leaving the damn door open. Say, "I'll be out there in October" or whatever. If they win this game and he doesn't play in the Heat series. And they somehow beat the Heat without him, is he going to come back then and make a team, that all of a sudden may be favorites in the conference, adjust to his return? I just don't understand why he can't just say he's not coming back this year. If he feels he can't play today, I don't know what he thinks is going to change on Monday...or next week....or in the NBA finals.

I don't think him not playing makes him soft or a terrible person/teammate. I think allowing the will he/won't he continue is terrible from a PR standpoint. I don't know what he has to lose by just saying he's not coming back this year. Come back next year and play at an MVP level again, nobody cares. But he's putting the team in a terrible position this year, even if he allows a glimmer of hope in.

-What players say in public, and what they actually think are two very, very different things.

Aside from the fact that my second quote doesn't contradict the first in this example, you're right. Good point.

My second quote there has to do with players being asked their opinions on things. Not guys making statements like Rose was trying to do.

If Rose and his team decided to have him speak, he delivered his message pretty poorly. The whole thing was tone deaf.
