Game 5 - BEARS @ Jacksonville Jaguars - 3:05 PM

I wonder if the Bears can go through a first quarter without starting multiple drives inside their own 10. That scares me every time.

Have the Bears received the ball first yet this year? Not sure how to look that up, but seems like we've kicked most of the time.

It's the worst and feels like it happens on every early drive.

The Bears received the ball first in the Colts and Rams games. Interestingly, in all four Bears games so far the team who has won the toss has chosen to defer.

Looks like the Bears received the ball first against Indy and STL, but kicked against GB and Dallas. And from a cursory look at the recaps, it looks like they ended up with generally better starting field position when they got the ball first. (duh)

Now that the replacement refs are gone, they're talking about their experiences filling in for the NFL's real referees. On Showtime's "Inside the NFL," one said that he had an interesting run-in with Bears quarterback Jay Cutler.

If you hadn't guessed it from lip-reading his words while on the field, it turns out our QB has quite the potty mouth.

"I had Jay Cutler, when we did not reset the game clock for him after a discussion about a penalty enforcement, call me a M-[expletive] replacement ref. 'Just because you are a M-[expletive] replacement ref, you've got to know the [expletive] rules,'" replacement ref Wayne Elliott said. "And three minutes later during a timeout, I'm standing next to him and he's got some water and he said, 'You want some water?' And I said, 'Yes, even though I'm a M-[expletive] replacement ref, I'll drink your water.' And he said, 'It's all I could say to get your attention.'

Well, sometimes you do have to swear to get people's attention. And Jay was nice enough to share his water with the referee, so is it that bad?

While it seems like all we're talking about lately is Cutler's disposition, I'm ready to give Cutler a pass on this one. The replacement referees were frustrating everyone from players to fans. A f-bomb isn't classy, but it's hardly the worst of Cutler's actions.

I love this man.

I love that this dude goes on TV and basically tries to call out Jay Cutler for swearing on a football field while glossing over the fact that the reason Jay was swearing at him was because of their incompetence in such a simply thing as resetting a play clock. Oh heavens to Betsy, a curse word? For shame.

Thanks for posting that. I had issues copying it on my kindle fire last night, and forgot about it by this morn.

Jags DVOA pass defense equally as bad as rush defense. Jags DVOA rush offense is 10 so that should be a good test for the Bears. Bears rush defense is currently ranked 18 but i feel they are a better team in that regard.

Lance Briggs is having his best year, he is playing out of his mind. I LOVE what Marinera is doing with the dline and defense. All the twists, stunts, dropping shea in coverage, he is really mixing it up and being aggressive. Has major wright turned the corner and become and good safety? he is making some nice plays out there.

I like what tice did with moving marshall around last game, its hard to double team him in the slot. Marshall is such a bad ass. Its fun having a guy like him on the Bears.

Funny. It seems like an easy bet to me too. I cant fathom the Bears winning by less than 5. But I was listening to the Vegas gambling expert on ESPN Chicago and he basically said stay away from this one at 4.5. Something about a florida road game coming off a big Monday night win. He said that he'd only bet the over under. This dude seems to m ow what he's talking about too.

Like we were discussing past week in the NFL thread. Gambling is a tricky business. But Vegas seems to know more than we do.

Yes, I know all those rules and I don't care. Not only are the Bears much better than Jacksonville, this is a terrible matchup for the Jaguars. I will be shocked if they don't win this by at least a touchdown.

the jags and gabbert are so bad, the bears will probably not even need offensive points to cover a -4.5 spread.

A couple stats to make me a little more confident of tomorrow's game being the blowout that it should be.

- Jay Cutler is 8-1 in his last 9 games, with the team scoring 30ppg in those games.

- The Bears are 7-2 under Lovie the week AFTER playing on Monday night. In all 7 wins, the Bears have scored at least 34 points. Strangely enough, they are 6-0 on Sunday after playing MNF on the road. Of course, the 2 losses have been monumental. The complete disaster that was the Giants Sunday Night game, and the season ending loss to Houston to keep the Bears out of the playoffs a few years ago.

I went from thinking Bears blowout, to worried about a trap because everyone was predicting blowout, to thinking blowout again.

Bears 27

Jags 13

87 in Jacksonville. And on that note, never send siragusa to Jacksonville before November. Edited by Careless

87 would really be just running up the score. Have to think they'll start resting starters after 40.
