Cubs trade Blake Lalli for Anthony Recker

The Cubs will acquire Anthony Recker from the Athletics, the catcher's agent confirmed to Susan Slusser of the San Francisco Chronicle (Twitter link). Oakland had designated Recker for assignment exactly one week ago to create 40-man roster space for Brett Anderson.

I doubt that Recker or Lalli have any chance of catching on and sticking on a 40 man for any length of time, so I guess the only thing I can take from this is maybe they feel more comfortable with Recker's bat as a backup than Clevenger? Because I definitely see Castillo as our guy moving into next year.

I know these comments were sort of made in jest but I don't think it's that far off. This was simply a change of scenery trade for 2 guys struggling in the minors. Theo and Beane know neither of these guys are ever going to become major league caliber so why not give them a little hope with a new organization?
