The biggest issue I had with Brenly was his weird obsession with ragging on guys like Ramirez, Soriano and Castro for any minor issue.

I always assumed he wanted to build up meatball cred for a run at being a manager again.

Yeah, and that was my least favorite thing about him as well, but disagreeing with his opinion didn't mean that I didn't think he was entertaining or informative.

My biggest issue with Brenly was his obsession with telling everyone who caught a foul ball to give it to a kid. Its a nice sentiment but there were times where the cameras would go back to that area and Bob would repeatedly beg for the ball to be given to the kid.

Didn't Brenly choose to leave?

Yes. This is a weird conversation.

- Brenly chose not to return

- He was entertaining, but had weird fixations with criticizing certain players

- Deshaies is well liked, and many have optimism that he can be an improvement on Brenly

That about the crux of it?

That's certainly where most of us are, I think. It was just weird how it got back to a Brenly attack/defense after the Deshaies hiring was confirmed.

There has been talk (locally) that Brenly chose not to return because he got a low ball offer from the Cubs. Whether that's true or not, who knows.

As for the last point, I'd say that's an understatement.

Is it crazy that I remember this? I was almost sure it was the day after Dunston hit an awesome walkoff vs. them, and, sure enough...

EDIT - He mentioned that start in his press conference today

Deshaies says challenge of sabermetrics on b'casts is to "put it in context and help explain the game to people." Len does this well. #Cubs

Whoa. I didn't realize he looked like David Kaplan's evil twin.

Not that I want to take the focus of this thread away from the Deshaies hiring, but I never understood why Brenley wasn't brought back. Anyone know why?

Because he sucked at his job, just less so than others. The only reason to keep him was that there were horrifically worse options. No one will miss Brenly.

oh come on.

To put things in perspective, The list of Cubs broadcasters that I hate includes (but is not necessarily limited to): Harry Caray, Chip Caray, Milo Hamilton, Joe Carter, Jack Brickhouse, Lou Boudreau (sp?) and Brenly. It's possible that someone will have fond memories of Brenly ragging on Aramis Ramirez but I'd guess that if the new guy is as good as he seems no one will find themselves wishing that Brenly would return.

With Josh Lewin and Thom Brennaman in existence, I would hope not.

I always hated that he spelled Tom with an H. I could, however, forgive DeWayne Statts for his dumb name.

Garza confirmed on Twitter tonight that he is bringing back the pies for '13!!!!!

Brenly leaving just keeps getting better.

my post was sarcastic.

It was hard to read that way because typically when you say a thing "keeps getting better" sarcastically, it would imply that that thing was bad, but it's not.

The pie things, however, are awful.

yeah, the second sentence was a mistake.

On another note let's continue to question whether or not we really like Matt...

@Katie_H7 it's gonna be more of a game by game decision... But they will be coming back.. Maybe new moves also

and then he dropped this

@georgelopez is your new HBO special released yet. Wanted to purchase one for a family bus ride to a Raider game this weekend... Big fan!
