I wouldn't call 2 SP and a CF a good plan, until we see who they get. Sounds more like the bare minimum for a passing grade.

It depends on who those players are. If we end up with Greinke/Sanchez/Upton, I think that's a pretty good start toward being good again.

If we end up with Lohse/Marcum/CF stopgap, then it's another attempt at a top 1-3 draft pick.

What exactly was his elbow "healing" from? Did his exact injury ever come out?

I think they called it stress reaction

Are there any pitchers recently who have had that injury/what was their return like/did they see any injuries happen soon after their return?

Yeah..... that did nothing. I went to google first to look for answers. All that came up were articles explaining what the injury is and that Garza had it. Nothing about what other pitchers have had it and how they returned from it.

Blake Parker had the same injury back in June, came back in September, and then promptly went back on the DL with elbow problems.

What would reasonable expectations for Vizcaino this season? Most of the rotation talk on the board doesnt really include him in the planned rotation with Shark, Wood, Garza and Baker... I understand the need for insurance for the rotation but does he have a better chance than, say wood, to start in the rotation if/when we aquire another starter?

He's going to be limited at about 100 innings and probably kept in AAA for some of that. Slowly stretched out, 10 starts in Iowa, then six in Chicago is probably the best bet. Praying he doesn't get reinjured every step of the way.

I would imagine the hopeful/tentative plan is to bring him up when whatever buy/flip pitcher they acquire is dealt around the deadline.

Who's trolling if I post this? Me, Levine or the Cubs?

Alex (Chicago)

Who are the Cubs looking at for CF next year? Will it be through FA or trade?

Bruce Levine (12:02 PM)

It could be from within. There's always the possibility of Campana and Sappelt platooning in center.

That depends on if Levine actually knows anything, or if he's just pulling that from his ass.

I'm sure he meant Jackson and Sappelt. Auto-correct will do wacky things sometimes.

Is garza going to be ready early-ish in the season and will they limit his innings as well?

He's fully cleared to do his normal offseason program as of last week, so I don't see why his readiness early in the season nor an innings limit would be an issue.

It's pretty clear in the way he words that (or doesn't word it) that he's doing the latter, IMO.

As mentioned in transactions, we've reached the part of the offseason where Stockholm Syndrome takes over and I start to squint really hard so that the next season kind of looks OK.

If we quit screwing around with the bench, get some development in the bullpen, and make a half-hearted attempt to put useful players in at CF, 3b and No. 4 starter, I'm starting to see a .500 team.

Soriano/???/DeJesus (Sappelt/Campana)

Valbuena/Castro/Barney/Rizzo (LaHair/???)

Castillo (Navarro)

Samardzija/Garza/Baker/???/Wood (Vizcaino)

Marmol/Camp/Bowden/Dolis/Iowa Conga Line

I kind of don't hate everything about that team. 78 wins with a slim chance of making things interesting enough in the WC race that we don't spazsell everything in July.
