you weren't concerned about it 2 weeks ago?

Jackson has always been a guy that Ks a lot

And he can't strike out like that to stick in the majors. He struck out 33% of the time this year in AAA, that would be 2nd in MLB behind Dunn. You have to figure that number goes up (at 61% first 3 games) now that he's in the majors. He doesn't nearly walk or hit for enough power to make up for such a high k%.

He has a career .097 IsoD(.084 at AAA), how much more could you possibly expect him to walk?

Jackson is never going to have a low K rate, and he either needs to lower it a bit to get a little more BABIP luck to prop up his average, or he needs to get better at really punishing mistakes and become Adam Dunn lite with better athleticism. It doesn't surprise me(or anyone following him closely at AAA) that he's off to this start at the MLB level, what I'm more interested in is how well he hits in late August and September after the coaching staff has some time to see him play everyday and make some mechanical adjustments. If his K-rate stays sky high for that timeframe, I'm going to be pretty down on him ever being an MLB regular. Not impossible(see: Rizzo, Anthony), but considering the likely cause I won't have a lot of hope.

Not sure what people expected. He struck out in the minors a ton and it'll be the same if not worse in the majors.

I'm not so much concerned as I am already convinced that he can't.

This.

I kind of expect someone lauded as a great prospect not to strike out 7 of 8 times.

He stopped being lauded as a great prospect earlier this year, when his flaws were exposed as a much bigger problem than previously imagined.

He wasn't lauded. Well, only by Cubs fans.

You haven't been paying close enough attention.

Yea, that's not true at all.

Well define lauded. I think anyone that had a clue knew when he was brought up his flaws in the minors was just going to get worse when he's facing better talent.

He stopped being a "lauded" prospect when he struck out 222 times in 154 AAA games over the last two seasons. While not seeing any of his other offensive numbers spike (SLG, OBP, BB%, HR/FB, etc.) to make up for his contact inneficiencies.

Yes, everyone was well aware that Jackson had significant issues when he was brought up on Monday. Those problems with contact have only become so extreme in the last 2-3 months, so the fact that he was universally considered a good prospect is hardly homerism.

lauded - past participle, past tense of laud

Verb:

Praise highly, esp. in a public context.

Baseball America had him in the top 100 for 2010, 2011, and 2012 - most recently #32.

Must be some other Brett Jackson. i'm shocked he was ranked that high most recently.

I recall that when he was drafted his strikeout rate was brought up as a killer. His high BABIP created excitement, but obviously at this level the strikeouts will devour the rest of his game.

You didn't know BJax was ranked that highly? I'm shocked a cubs fan that posts on this board so frequently could miss that info

I thought his ranking dropped. But I don't check rankings that often.
